As we head into the colder months, it's a good time to check for electrical hazards around your home. Use extension cords only temporarily, avoid overloading outlets, and always plug space heaters directly into wall outlets. A few simple precautions can help reduce the risk of a fire.
People Helping People is more than our purpose. It’s something our members put into action, sometimes well beyond the community we serve.
A fire engine is making the 2,280-mile trip from Pierce County to its new home with the Cabo San Lucas Fire Department, thanks to our members, neighboring fire departments and local businesses.
Central Pierce Chaplain Jason Osburn donated the 1995 tanker/engine, which carries 2,000 gallons of water, an important resource in an area with limited access to fire hydrants.
Captain Jeff Pugh coordinated the effort, building on a nearly 20-year relationship with Cabo Fire Chief Juan Antonio Carbajal. Central Pierce mechanic Pat Risley also donated nearly 200 hours of his own time to get the engine road ready.
West Pierce, South Pierce and East Pierce donated surplus tools, equipment and PPE. S&S Tire donated all 10 tires and installation, VanCour’s Customs detailed the cab, and Rescue 42, Ajax Rescue Tools and Hi-Lift Jack Company donated rescue and extrication equipment.
A lot of people gave their own time and resources to make this possible. On October 19, Jeff and Pat will travel to Cabo for the official handoff.
We’re proud of our members and partners for supporting fellow firefighters and helping provide an important resource for the community they serve.
