1/ #Ethereum L1 is like the sun. Orders the solar system and enables life (smart contracts) in the 1st place. But that doesn't mean life must directly live on its surface.

2/ In fact, the overwhelming majority of life will live on planets (L2). Whose continents are @EdFelten's @arbitrum and @ukolodny's @StarkWareLtd. With #Chainlink DONs as the oceans (to borrow/adapt @infoparity's excellent metaphor); the common substrate everything floats in.
3/ At which point L1 merely becomes a "final abstraction" that synchronizes, but does not necessarily touch, anything.
Conveniently also solving the privacy issues that can't just be handwaved away with ZKPs (as data won't be on mainnet to begin with). @jwolpert @baselineproto
