Prediction markets offer Americans a new way to gauge what’s happening in the world, and as they grow, so does the need for federal oversight.
At the @CFTC, we are closely monitoring trading activity to uphold the gold standard of market integrity. Watch more on @clayandbuck:
For too long, regulators drove good actors offshore while bad actors like Sam Bankman-Fried defrauded American investors.
Those priorities were backwards. In this era at the @CFTC, we are putting market integrity first, pursuing fraudsters and allowing legitimate innovation to thrive on American soil. @clayandbuck
America cannot lead on the new frontier of finance with outdated and anachronistic regulations that force economic activity offshore.
That’s why the @CFTC proposed a pathway for crypto exchanges to opt in to a federal regulatory framework designed for national markets, with robust customer protections and clear rules for margin trading. @Bankless
For too long, the @CFTC and @SECGov were locked in regulatory turf battles, unable to even agree on who regulates what.
Those days are over. @SECPaulSAtkins and I are turning the page on jurisdictional disputes and bringing long-overdue clarity to American markets. More on @Bankless:
Super intelligence is poised to transform our financial markets.
Through the @CFTC's inaugural Frontier Forum, we are bringing together leaders at the intersection of technology and finance to explore the opportunities and risks of super intelligence and help shape the next frontier of American financial innovation.

The fight for onion futures continues today in Chicago.
For those wondering how we got here, Congress banned onion futures in 1958 following market manipulation. Decades later, Hollywood successfully pushed to add a prohibition on box office event contracts.
Apparently, this debate still has a few layers left to peel back. Watch:
CFTC Chairman @ChairmanSelig to @ClayTravis & @BuckSexton: the link between regulating betting markets and… onion market manipulation. You read that right. Onions. 🧅
Regulatory certainty in crypto markets shouldn’t come with an expiration date.
I’m committed to working across the aisle to establish clear, durable rules of the road that provide lasting regulatory certainty and stand the test of time. More on @Bankless:
America’s agricultural producers laid the foundation for our futures markets.
Next week, @CFTC and @KState will convene agricultural producers, industry experts, and policymakers at AgCon to discuss the evolving needs of American agriculture and the role of futures markets in managing risk.

Fraud and manipulation know no borders.
The @CFTC has exclusive jurisdiction over prediction markets for this reason. These exchanges are interstate businesses that match the bids and offers of customers from across the country. Congress equipped the CFTC with the tools needed to enforce uniform standards, surveil and police fraud and manipulation, and protect customer funds across state lines. @LizClaman
Thank you to @FarmBureau for the opportunity to address your Ag CEO Council today.
It was a pleasure joining @NGFA President Mike Seyfert on stage for a conversation centered on the @CFTC's work to build relationships and trust in the agriculture community, navigating agricultural market conditions, hedging risk, and 24/7 trading.
T-minus 8 days! We hope you can join us in Kansas City from October 22-23 for the return of AgCon, where you'll have the opportunity to listen and learn from industry leaders as the CFTC remains focused on supporting the agricultural community and the millions of Americans who depend on it.
Thank you @POTUS, @SecScottBessent, and @USComptroller for your work to end unlawful debanking practices and protect Americans' financial freedom. No longer will Americans be punished for embracing financial innovation or denied access to the system for exercising their right to choose how they manage their money.
Under the leadership of @POTUS and @SecScottBessent, @USComptroller Jonathan V. Gould is ending the weaponization of finance. Read about the OCC’s supervisory review of debanking activities in its nine largest national banks and its efforts to guarantee fair banking for all Americans. occ.gov/FairBanking
It was an honor and privilege to host this year’s Michael D. Gill Memorial Society Lecture today at the @CFTC, a place where Mike touched so many lives and still has many friends.
While I did not have the pleasure of working with Mike directly, I knew him to be a devoted public servant who was highly respected for his ability to listen, understand, and facilitate consensus when it seemed few others could.
Thank you to everyone who helped foster an atmosphere of camaraderie and collaboration at today's symposium. I cannot think of a better way to honor Mike’s legacy.
Event contracts are used by Americans every day to hedge risks, speculate, and provide the public with information about the outcome of future events.
With this move, the @CFTC is taking another important step to clarify that these commodity derivatives fall squarely within the CFTC’s regulatory remit under the Commodity Exchange Act and are subject to the agency’s exclusive jurisdiction.
.@CFTC Seeks Public Comment on Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Concerning the Inclusion of Certain Event Contracts in the Definition of Swap: cftc.gov/PressRoom/PressRele…
Casino-style gambling products are not derivatives. Today, the @CFTC is providing clarity regarding the limits of our remit by codifying the exclusion of casino-style gambling products from the “swap” definition just as we have done with respect to other products historically regulated by the states.

The @CFTC's proposed crypto asset regulatory regime would institute a federal regulatory framework designed to protect exchange customers from fraud, manipulation, and theft of customer funds as we saw with FTX.
Ironically, by denouncing our efforts to bring market-based regulation to crypto exchanges and supporting the status quo, our critics find themselves on the side of the fraudsters, manipulators, and looters-dangerously inviting the next Sam Bankman-Fried to run roughshod over the American people.
