The police can order us to leave, but they can't hide the fact that disabled people are dying unnecessarily in institutional settings across Illinois.

Once again, Congress is leaving the very people dying the most out of COVID rescue funds.
Groups across the country are calling for money to Save Lives from 'faclity-acquired-COVID' docs.google.com/document/d/1…
Since Spring, we've been calling for @GovPritzker and others to take action to get people out of these dangerous facilities.
These terrible numbers underscore how urgent it is. teapaw.org/hannahmeisel/status/13…

For weeks and weeks, I've noted that the percentage of COVID cases in long-term care facilities keeps falling, but this is the first time it's ever jumped.
Between last Friday and today, IDPH is reporting 6,543 new infections in nursing homes and other LTCFs. That's a lot.

In celebration of #ADA30, Executive Producer @barackobama shared Noah Ohashi's story as a queer transgender Chicago-based disability activist and Co-Coordinator of @ChicagoADAPT. Noah is also the founder of @cdi_squad, an org supporting marginalized students.
Congrats, @SEIU73! Thank you for fighting to raise the bar for all of us.

Solidarity with @INAaction and @SEIU73 as they fight for a fair contract and safe working conditions at UIC.
Health concerns during the pandemic may keep some of us away from joining the picket lines, but our members are sending support however we can. #FairContractNowUIC

Yesterday, we marched through a short stretch of Rogers Park past nursing homes where some 700 people have contracted covid, and 100 have died. Similar outrages are unfolding across IL.
This doesn't have to continue. We need state action to #SaveDisabledLives. #GetThemOutNow

While our monthly meeting is going on, we want to send a shout-out to the big group of disability activists protesting outside congregate care facilities in Rogers Park, where hundreds have contracted covid and far too many have died. Solidarity.
The march has stopped at The Chalet. Residents are speaking to unhealthy management practices, limited freedoms, and over 30 days without full access to clean running water.
Even without a pandemic, this would be a crisis. Now it’s even moreso. #ADAPTandRescue #Not2Fragile
Two speeches in a row: One from a current resident sharing his hope that he’ll survive, despite the unsafe practices, then from our member Kevin McPhan, a survivor of 4 nursing homes. #ADAPTandRescue #Not2Fragile #SaveDisabledLives
A reminder as we wrap that congregate settings—nursing homes, IMDs, jails, etc—are inherently dangerous during a pandemic, especially when people are crammed together.
We need ACTIVE state monitoring of these spaces, and we need to help people move to safety. #SaveDisabledLives
If these buildings were on fire, we’d get people out immediately.
Covid has been burning through, taking a toll of illness and death. Will @GovPritzker and @IDPH continue to watch it burn? #ADAPTandRescue #Not2Fragile #SaveDisabledLives

Residents on the porch who have been talking to the protest reporting that they’re threatened, being told to come in.
Nursing home management is trying to hide issues rather than address them. It’s a recipe for further crisis. #ADAPTandRescue #Not2Fragile #SaveDisabledLives
Update: Per a text, Chalet management told residents to come in lest our protest grow violent—while also threatening loss of freedoms if they didn’t.
@IDPH, is this kind of fearmongering and intimidation okay? #ADAPTandRescue #Not2Fragile #SaveDisabledLives
