The Nancy & Lee duet, “Some Velvet Morning,” is widely regarded as one of the greatest duets of all time. In fact, it topped London’s Daily Telegraph’s 2003 list of the 50 Greatest Duets Ever. The song is anything but conventional, featuring dramatic shifts in time signature from 4/4 to 3/4 that add to its distinctive, dreamlike quality. Lee originally wanted to record the two parts separately and splice them together, but the band, which included Don Randi, Carol Kaye, and Hal Blaine, insisted they could handle the tricky changes.
