I visit Spangdahlem Airbase in Germany to find out how the USAF's 52nd Fighter Wing use their F-16s & examine what these types of jets deliver for Ukraine – before flying the F-16 itself. Available on @BBCiPlayer for UK viewers. Link in reply.

Love this!
Patrick Stewart. Turned up so early and so unobtrusively to be a star in the reasonably priced car, we mistook him for a delivery driver and asked him to go round the back. Took his hat off and said, “But I’m the captain of the Enterprise”. Fucking nice guy.

Correct. Using Starlink, a civilian commercial service, for offensive drone strikes to kill people has never been allowed, nor should it be. Starshield, a different system, is controlled by the US government. What they decide to do is up to them. Ukraine military violated Starlink terms of service and used it for offensive drone strikes to kill people. That loophole was closed last week. Starlink remains critical to the defense of Ukraine, as it is the only system that cannot be jammed or blown up, at least for now. Were Starlink to be turned off, the Ukrainian front line would collapse immediately. This is NOT a threat, it is simply a statement of fact. Starlink was also crucial to preventing Russia from overrunning Ukraine in the early days of the war, as all other means of communication were destroyed or jammed by Russia. SpaceX has done more to defend Ukraine than any private company on Earth BY FAR. That said, I have nothing but UTTER CONTEMPT for the virtue-signaling evil warmongers who push for endless slaughter and offer no realistic solution to the conflict. May you burn in hell. End of story.
STARLINK WORKS THE SAME WAY ITS ALWAYS WORKED. ITS NOT A WEAPONS SYSTEM, NO MATTER HOW MUCH UKRAINE WANTS IT TO BE.

EXCLUSIVE: Elon Musk approached Donald Trump with the idea of slowing down Starlink in Ukraine, The Telegraph can reveal. The billionaire tech entrepreneur approached the US president with the proposal to introduce speed limits on the system, which hampered Ukraine’s drone defences, according to four sources familiar with the discussions. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2…

I spend a fair bit of time in historic racing, as many know and so I talk to a serious quota of ‘greatest generation’ racing drivers. Here’s a few things millennials like me should really note - they are in their 70’s/80’s now… They arrive on time without fail, (I’m talking - to the literal minute) explain patiently and quietly with zero pretence despite objectively terrifying feats/stories. They minimise their own and maximise everyone else’s contribution to their usually significant results and achievements. And often tell the story from somebody else’s perspective These are people forged by different world. Roll your eyes as much as you want, we need to grab their view of the world before it’s gone.

Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the US government. Any limits on speed or usage are decided by the US military and ultimately POTUS. Starlink is a commercial service owned and controlled by SpaceX. Usage of Starlink is limited to civilian or defensive activities and cannot be used for offensive military action, as doing so would be inappropriate for a commercial company.

Looking at OpenAI releasing hundreds of mathematical results, I think we really have to lead with empathy here. When you’ve spent years learning a craft, whether it’s writing code, creating illustrations or doing mathematics, and suddenly a lot of what you do seems to be a prompt away, of course that’s disorienting. Your craft is how you define yourself, what you’re proud of, where you find flow, sometimes the thing that gives your day meaning. It’s a huge part of your identity. And I get how this can lead to a pretty nihilistic feeling, like you wake up one morning and think, okay, if everything can just be prompted into existence, what am I supposed to do now? What am I getting better at? What is all this effort for? Software engineers have been grappling with this for a while, and I expect more people will experience it as AI keeps accelerating. Writing a book, creating a movie, maybe someday helping solve a disease, more and more things we’ve spent our lives learning could feel a prompt away. I think that progress is amazing, and I’m 100% confident we’ll find harder problems to work on and new crafts to fall in love with. But knowing that intellectually doesn’t make the sense of loss disappear, especially when the change happens this fast and feels this brutal. We can celebrate the breakthroughs and still care about the millions of people trying to figure out where they fit and what gives their life meaning in a world becoming this intelligent. “You can do more now” might be true, but people also need time to process what they feel they’ve lost.
