And also over at the Substack, I wrote about the implications of @PaulTenorio’s report this morning for the Timbers.
As always, the convo will be over on the sunnier site. Come join in. #RCTID open.substack.com/pub/morris…
Over on the Substack, I took a look at the nebulous offseason ahead for the Thorns and worried about the lack of club leadership to lead them through it. #BAONPDX open.substack.com/pub/morris…
The Morrison Report is back! I bring the blog back to life by taking a look at the Timbers’ complicated winter ahead.
I’ll keep posting pieces #onhere for the next bit, but the bulk of the convo on my end will be over on BlueSky. Come join in! #RCTID open.substack.com/pub/morris…
(This tweet is basically exclusively for @MattDoyle76 and any other early-2010s Whitecaps sickos out there.)
There have been some hints recently, but Angel City’s announcement is a reminder that the Thorns need to be similarly rolling out a training facility in the near future for a number of reasons. #BAONPDX
📰 #AngelCityFC relocates to a nine-acre site on the Cal Lutheran University campus. The new performance center is the largest dedicated solely to an NWSL club. The multi-million dollar remodel will be completed for the 2025 NWSL preseason.

Largely agree with Matt’s analysis of the Timbers’ season.
One other bit about the Timbers’ attack: It’s low-key old. Both Mora and Jona will be 32 next year. If they see any regression from them and can’t patch things up with Evander…yiiiiiikes. #RCTID
Armchair Analyst: The Timbers had one of the best attacks, and one of the worst defenses in the league. And zero stability. And an MVP candidate.
And oh yeah, that guy apparently now wants out. Uh oh.

This Timbers should make a call. They absolutely won’t. But they absolutely should. #RCTID
Sources confirm @MLSist and @FelipeCar's shocking scoop: The Philadelphia Union have parted ways with head coach Jim Curtin.
Union feel they need to go in a new direction. Curtin two-time winner of MLS Coach of the Year. givemesport.com/jim-curtin-o…
I’m a bit agnostic about the contract dispute because we have very little visibility into that. And I certainly get why PTFC is steamed about Evander’s comments.
But hard not to nod along with Evander’s point about the apparent comfort with mediocre results in Portland. #RCTID
🪵🇧🇷| Evander explained the reason for the disagreement with the Portland Timbers management:

You can’t resist the darkness by giving yourself to it.
If we stick together and stay faithful to our values, we will get through this and we will be the light.
I think the fairly clear greatest need for the Timbers this offseason is a top-quality 6/8 (depending on where they see Ayala’s fit). That’s a difficult profile to fill, though, with these assets. Going to take some really sharp work from Grabavoy and company. #RCTID
Gosh darn it if it isn’t my favorite genre of MLS tweet. A team account, after a modest accomplishment (like advancing in a conference quarterfinal without winning even a single game), dragging pundits who made reasonable and yet-to-be-proven-incorrect predictions.
Also from last night, I thought the Riveters’ tifo was stunning. What a beautiful tribute to Sinc. #BAONPDX
True to Sinc, I really have no words. She’s the best there ever was. And that’s all I have to say about that. #BAONPDX
All make sense. But this shines a light on how much business the Timbers need to do in the attack ahead of 2025. Need another starting-competitive winger, a starting-competitive 9, and some depth.
And the attack is the group that’s *least* in need of improvement from ‘24. #RCTID
📰| #RCTID has announced their season ending roster update. The club has declined options on Marvin Loría, Tega Ikoba, and Mason Toye.

The Timbers’ attack was obviously very productive in 2024. But there’s pretty clear downside risk there for ‘25. Both Mora and Rodriguez turn 32 next summer. The beginnings of some regression isn’t out of the question for either.
And then there are the Evander questions. #RCTID
I agree with the core of Bill’s column. I also think there are costs to turning down big moves that players want even when the club has good reasons for doing so. And a club that has never made a major int’l outbound transfer has little capital to cover those costs. #RCTID
When he wrote “fans deserve better” what Evander seeks to have meant was “I want more.”
And that should give the Timbers significant pause when deciding whether the star midfielder should stay or go.
New @Oregonian column: oregonlive.com/timbers/2024/…
And a perception that the Timbers are unwilling to sell players—whether fair or not (and IMO their track record makes that perception at least partially fair)—will become a weight around their ankles in recruitment if they want to compete for prime and pre-prime targets. #RCTID
