𝗜𝗖𝗬𝗠𝗜: £𝟴𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗣𝗢𝗢𝗟’𝗦 𝗢𝗟𝗗 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗖𝗘 🏛️ Our @BlackpoolLabour Council stepped forward to buy the old Post Office on Abingdon Street, taking on the risks and responsibility of saving this historic landmark. Huge credit to @BpoolCouncil and a special shout out to Carl Carrington, who spearheaded the Heritage Investment Strategy helping make this possible. After fighting for this £850,000 funding in Parliament, I’m delighted this funding enables the next stage of stabilisation, roof repairs and weatherproofing, while the Council explores its future as a community-led cultural/creative hub and a hotel at the back of the building. My Dad worked here when he joined Royal Mail more than 40 years ago. I have fond memories of visiting with him as a child, so seeing it given a future means a great deal to me. The Council’s commitment, backed by our work in Parliament as Blackpool’s MPs, shows what we can achieve together for Blackpool’s future as we pursue UK City of Culture 2029.

Blackpool shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2029 – this is brilliant news for Blackpool and I couldn’t be prouder of our town. I want to thank everyone who got us to this point. Blackpool Council and Creative Blackpool for the ambition and hard work behind this bid, our theatres, music venues and grassroots arts organisations who have been laying the foundations for years, and everyone who has backed the bid so far. Every Lancashire MP who signed the letter I coordinated in support of Blackpool’s bid. Securing cross-party backing from every MP across the county sent a powerful, united message: Blackpool’s cultural success matters not just to our town, but to the whole of Lancashire. Blackpool has always brought people together through culture, but this is about much more than our history. It’s about opportunities for the next generation, supporting local businesses, creating jobs and leaving a legacy that lasts long after 2029. Culture should be part of every young person’s life here, whatever their family can afford. Blackpool deserves the City of Culture title and I’m confident in our chances. For me we’re the clear winner. Now it’s about bringing the town together and showing everyone what we can achieve. Let’s show Blackpool in a new light. (2/3)

For too long Blackpool has been defined by what people think they know about it. I’ve been making our case in Westminster and this is our chance to show the country what Blackpool really is – a town with a rich cultural heritage, a thriving creative community and huge potential. Being shortlisted is a big step forward, but there’s more to do. Blackpool deserves the City of Culture title and I’m confident in our chances. For me we’re the clear winner. Now it’s about bringing the town together and showing everyone what we can achieve. Let’s show Blackpool in a new light. (3/3)

£𝟭𝗠 𝗦𝗘𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞𝗣𝗢𝗢𝗟 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦 🏛️ I’ve been lobbying the government to support Blackpool’s efforts to restore the old Post Office and back in June I encouraged faith leaders to apply for this landmark fund. Government funding has been announced to protect two of our historic buildings today. @BpoolCouncil will use £850,000 from the Heritage at Risk Capital Fund to start the restoration of the former Post Office on Abingdon Street, the first phase of a plan to bring this Grade II listed landmark back into use as a community-led cultural and creative hub. And the Church of the Sacred Heart has secured £145,866 from the Places of Worship Renewal Fund for repairs. I’m delighted to see this investment in our town. Our heritage isn’t a souvenir, it’s the foundation for what comes next. As we bid to be UK City of Culture 2029, this funding builds on those foundations to help us show Blackpool in a new light 💡 Read more at chriswebb.org/news

The shortlist for UK City of Culture 2029 is due any day now and I’m confident about Blackpool’s position. Our bid is in, it has the backing of every MP in Lancashire and more than 20,000 people have put their names to it. This town deserves to be on that list and, for me, we are the clear winner. 🗼 Read more about our City of Culture ambitions at chriswebb.org/cityofculture2…

Fantastic news! 👏 Since becoming Chair of the Hospitality & Tourism APPG in 2024, I’ve been calling for a scheme just like this – harnessing the power of hospitality to tackle youth unemployment and open up career opportunities. Delighted to see this becoming a reality, with 100,000 opportunities for young people! Great work by @patmcfaddenmp, @UKHofficial and hospitality businesses across the country for turning this ambition into real opportunities for the next generation!
Thank you to @UKHofficial for announcing 100,000 new jobs for young people not in education, employment or training over the next few years. This comes on top of a similar agreement reached last month with UK retail. theguardian.com/society/2026…

Incredibly sad news. Pat was one of the loveliest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He cared deeply about his community and was always there to offer advice, guidance and support, particularly to newly elected councillors finding their feet. He was a true gentleman who gave so much to Manchester and the people he served. Manchester is a lesser place without him and Christmas in Manchester will never quite be the same. Rest in peace, Pat. You’ll be greatly missed.

When I met Angela Rayner to campaign for change to overly aggressive council tax debt collection, with its unprecedented rapid escalation to balliffs, she nodded like most politicians do. I explained it was destructive for individuals, councils and the economy. She listened more then said she'd change it. I was sceptical. Yet a consultation was launched within weeks and delightfully the change announced within 18mths (its in place from next April) - bullet train pace for politics. I've a rule that if I campaign for a politician (of any party) to do something, and they do it, I say thank you. Its important to recognise it. So thank you so much Angela Rayner for listening and more importantly acting. The changes coming are a great start.
I promised we'd make council tax fairer, and I’m getting on with the job. Too many working people have seen council tax debt spiral before they had the chance to get help. That's why we're introducing more time to pay, clearer warnings if you miss a payment and more support from councils. Thanks to @MartinSLewis and @mmhpi for their tireless campaigning to make this change happen. Here's everything you need to know ⬇️

Blackpool is my home and I’m proud to fight for our town every single day. Since becoming your MP, I’ve helped over 16,000 local residents and secured more than £150 million for Blackpool. But there’s still so much more to do. If you can, please support my campaign with a donation. Every pound helps us keep fighting for Blackpool South🌹 👇donate.labour.org.uk/blackpo…

As a fight fan, I really hope this isn’t the case, @Turki_alalshikh @NetflixUK Fury vs Joshua will be the biggest fight in boxing history, with the eyes of the world watching. That undercard should be a platform for the next generation, showcasing the UK and Ireland’s best young prospects - giving them the chance to announce themselves to the world against fighters from across the world. Celebrate the legends, absolutely. But an event like this should focus on inspiring the next generation. This must be a night that encourages more young people to walk through the doors of their local amateur boxing club, put on a pair of gloves and believe they will be the next @Tyson_Fury or @anthonyjoshua. Legends like Pacquiao have had their time. Please use this stage to show the world the next generation of legends and role models boxing has to offer. @EddieHearn @FrankWarren @Spencergoldstar @IFLTV @St0mpingGround @KuganCassius @CharIieParsons @GarethADaviesDT @SkyJohnnyNelson

Dyslexia is often associated with school, reading and spelling, but it is lifelong and can affect many aspects of working life, from applying for jobs and managing workloads to developing and progressing in a career. 📚 Being dyslexic has shaped how I work and I'm proud of the strengths it has given me. Creative problem-solving, resilience and the ability to see things from a different angle. But many dyslexic people still go without simple workplace adjustments that could allow them to reach their full potential. If you have dyslexia, think you might, or you’re an employer wanting to better support dyslexic employees, please look to the @BDAdyslexia for advice and support. You know that feeling when you book a flight for 50 quid and somehow it ends up costing 100? Getting seats together, correcting a typo, another charge here and there, it all adds up. When the cost of living is already squeezing people, those endless extras can feel relentless. So we're changing the rules for you. Parents won't need to pay a penny extra just to sit next to their own children. You'll be able to fix any name errors on your booking free of charge. And because the last thing you want once you're on the plane is more stress, we're working with the industry to make sure that disruptive passengers who have been banned from one airline can be banned from flying with other airlines too. I know holidays are expensive and these are small things, but hopefully they'll make your trip just that little bit cheaper and easier. That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing.
