So after yesterday's election Idle & Thackley has remained a Lib Dem stronghold. Rachel Sunderland has returned to the council, winning the seat that her mother Jeanette Sunderland held before her death.

Here are the full results from the Idle & Thackley election. As you can see, it was a comfortable win for the Liberal Democrats

We've been told the results could be coming through in the next 30/60 minutes #Idleelections
Still no update on when we might be getting a result today #Idleelection #LDReporter

Since he was elected Council Leader in May, we've been unable to secure an interview with Reform's Stephen Place. However, he gave the below introduction to members of West Yorkshire Combined Authority's business panel earlier this month

For the other parties who fielded candidates, this election will be more about increasing their numbers in the council chamber rather than gaining control of the Council.
The current make up is
Reform 28
Tories 18
Labour 17
Your Bradford Independent 10
Green 9
Ind 4
Lib Dem 1
Reform, which is currently the biggest party in Bradford, need 46 seats for a majority. Winning all 3 seats in Idle would give them 31 seats. 2/3 #LDReporter #Idleelection
As I reported last month, the lack of a majority has already led to issues for Reform 3/3

From the Reform point of view, a win would be highly significant for the party, which had no Councillors ahead of May's elections. It would not, however, give the party a majority. 1/3 #Idleelection #LDReporter
Arguably the biggest story of this election will be whether the Lib Dem's are able to maintain a significant presence on Bradford Council. The party lost its Leader, Eccleshill Councillor Brendan Stubbs, in May's election, and currently has just one seat out of 90 1/2
Losing Idle & Thackley would obviously be a massive blow to the party 2/2 #Idleelections
I understand we're not likely to get a result today until early/mid afternoon

Before we get into the politics of today I thought I'd share this piece about Cllr Sunderland - who was hugely respected by Councillors from across the Council chamber.

Bradford Council are today counting votes in the local election for Idle & Thackley. The election was postponed from May because of the death of one of the candidates - Lib Dem Councillor Jeanette Sunderland.
Three seats are up for grabs. 1/2

Since then we've had votes on who will be chair and vice chair of the various council committees. Despite Reform being the biggest party on the Council, they have failed to get any of their recommended chairs/deputies approved by the rest of the Council. #LDReporter
