Good to see them put the foot back on the gas after about 10 minutes of very sloppy play.
Back court combination of Tavari/Eli/Xavier/Kobe is deadly.
Solid wing play with green/kalu/bradford
Things that need to get cleaned up are defending without fouling, turnovers and our bigs being in better position and getting in the dunker spot on offense.
I also would like to see Trey Scott get some more run, I think he’s earned some more minutes.
Really sloppy basketball here in the second half.
Bad turnovers, dumb fouls. Not playing hard enough
I think we have one of the best back courts we’ve had in a long time. Just dudes upon dudes who can score at will.
Big play has got to be better, though I thought BP found his footing there a little towards the end of the first.
Slightly concerned about Kalu, need him for Temple.
All in all another great half of cougar hoops.
Thanks for your services Tavari.
NEWS: The Tenth Circuit has REVERSED and VACATED the nationwide preliminary injunction in Wisne v. NCAA, issuing a published opinion in the 5-for-5 eligibility litigation.
The injunction had already been stayed since August 21, and following oral arguments that appeared to go poorly for the plaintiffs, this outcome was largely expected.
The three-judge panel concluded that the plaintiffs failed to establish a legally supportable antitrust labor market encompassing all Division I sports.
Importantly, the court did NOT decide whether the NCAA's exclusion of the Class of 2022 is ultimately lawful, nor did it address whether NCAA eligibility rules are exempt from antitrust scrutiny.
Oh my god 😭😭😭😭😭
USF Coach Chris Mack says he needs to be more prepared for the final play.
"I didn't know that'd have five seconds, no timeouts, and side out to to win the game, and so that's on me. That's not that's not really on our team. I wish Chris (Davis Jr.) would have had the confidence to shoot a three, to leave Chicago with a win."
Here are my thoughts on the overall team performance from Monday and some thoughts on individual players:
- TD Arena is going to be absolutely on fire and packed to the gills with the style of play Groce has installed with this team. Still on the school and on Groce to get butts in seats but the play of the team will speak for itself.
- This looks like it could be the deepest team we’ve had in a long time, it feels like the entire team can light up the scorers book if they please
- This team looks like they’re having fun, playing with joy and sharing the rock with their teammates. That’s new!
-I saw more back door and off ball cutting than I did the entirety of last year
- John Groce is so much more engaged with his teams on the sideline than the bad man from the last two years.
- The defense was shaky early on but they will force plenty of turnovers and have active hands and they play hard. They’re going to have to figure out how to play better defense in the paint and grab more defensive rebounds.
On to individuals.
-Tavari Johnson knows how to run the hell out of an offense. He knows what the game requires of him. It feels like he can choose to be a scorer whenever he wants, but last night he was an excellent facilitator and stabilizer. You need that with a young team like this.
- Jashawn Ladd and Kobe Edwards are going to play their way into a lot of minutes if they play with defensive intensity and offensive hunger they played with last night. They are a joy to watch.
-Braden Pierce- Had a quiet night but he’s going to be a very important piece of this team in terms of rim pressure, rebounding and keeping other teams bigs in check
-Xavier Abreu is quick as hell and an incredibly fun player to watch, he’s fits Groce’s style of play perfectly and he’ll do great in his system
-I’d still like to see Martin Kalu be more aggressive. He is great at drawing fouls, and he’s explosive I want to see him going to the hoop more and Groce needs to unlock more aggressiveness within him
-Eli Ellis is a breath of fresh air when it comes to three point shooting and he is going to be a focal point of the offense
-Will Mortimore looked excellent and much improved he has an incredibly high motor and is a big that will function well in Groce’s system he needs to stay healthy
-I thought Trey Scott looked great. He can stretch the floor. He will be a massive X factor if he can continue to defend and grab rebounds.
-Max Green has an incredibly high basketball IQ and along with tavari will add stability with the young guys, along with Ellis he will be one of our best three point shooters.
-Great kid but I think I’ve seen enough tape on Curcic and I’m not confident he can be a big contributor on this team, but trust Groce to get the most out of him
-Ben Bradford- didn’t know what to expect from him but looks like he can be the best player on the floor on any given night and can score at all levels
-HOW ABOUT CONNER GROCE?!?!
Last years team was billed as lob city, and I think I’ve seen more thunderous dunks in one game than I did with all of last years team
