Thread: Today by chance I met a lady who has an autistic son.
“He’s 5” she said, “and he’s never spoken”.
“That’s fine”, Was all I could say, “as long as he’s happy” I added.
She said she thinks he is but can’t be sure. She confessed she struggles with communication.

If anyone has a secret mobile phone hidden from an abusive partner, remember to switch off emergency alerts, or the phone will be activated with the loud alert on the evening of 23/04. I think this government action is misguided for a few reasons

Not wearing a mask indoors right now is the perfect analogy for ableism. When you don't wear a mask, and you look over and see me masked, here's what I can read in your action: 1/7
No one should have to hide anything regarding their identity, because of covert or overt discrimination. Those who judge others negatively bc of their names (or anything perceived as different), are just revealing their ignorance and denying people equal opportunities.

Today I saw an Uber delivery driver peeing against someone’s gate, wiping his hands on his jeans, then proceeding to deliver the meal. Although the optimist in me hopes it’s a one off, I’m afraid it has now forever ruined the concept of food delivery for me. So I’m sharing 😖
Before you form hasty judgements about an autistic person’s temperament, think about what it’s like to be on high alert 24/7.
If you have to force it, it’s not your size. It applies to clothes, rings, shoes, hats, relationships, and friends.
Some people really like to add their own interpretation to things I say. Please don’t. If I say “I don’t understand this or that”, I am NOT condemning it. I am saying I do NOT understand it. Completely different thing. If I was against it, I’d tell you. That’s all folks.
"A refugee is a person who is forced to leave their country in order to escape war, PERSECUTION, or a natural disaster." Some groups in the USA might want to start looking into that.

Psych wards are NOT like what you see on social media. They are traumatic. You don’t make TikTok’s and have fun.
Medical model works well for infectious diseases and cancer but not for people with mental health. Focuses on medicine, and not recovery or healing.

As of today I ~officially~ have long COVID (as recognized by the CDC), so I wanna take a second to explain what’s happening. To set the stage: I’m 30, I’ve been an athlete my entire life, and I used to be extremely healthy, minus some pesky seasonal allergies. My resting heart 1/
The main source of body shaming is done by family, “ friends”, & people you know. Something to think about.

A lot of my friends have just stopped talking to me because they feel guilty talking about their lives while my whole social life, apart from work, has been on hold since March 2020. And that's a whole extra thing to grieve about. 1/7
When doing things like icebreakers, be mindful of sensitive issues that you as a privileged person may not be aware of, i.e. “tell us where you live”. Some people may be invisibly homeless, others escaping domestic violence, etc.
