Holiday let's are a HUGE success story. Est £154m brought to city’s economy & 5,580 jobs created in 2023.
It is time to celebrate the tremendous amount of work that makes this happen & our wonderful community.

In case politicians are unaware, a raft of ill-considered legislation & poor communication with Scotland's self-catering sector has made problems for local operators 10x worse. We're on a cliff edge. Locals go abroad as we're pushed as a playground for the wealthiest. #SaveSC

On your watch @PaulMcLennan7, @_KateForbes, @JohnSwinney - was it arrogance,ignorance or sheer incompetence that led you to ignore industry experts (@ASSCnews @FionaCampbell74),who warned this would happen? 😡Do something about it - stop destroying the industry! @SaveSCScotland

This is just one of many instances where your government has waged a war against its own people.. in pursuit of a niche activist agenda that damages society.

Unfortunately politicians either don't care (unless it impacts their re-election) or just don't understand how businesses actually run & have no idea how the barrage of ill-judged legislation is destroying local operators in favour of offshored investors. #SaveSC

In case anyone thinks that killing off local self catering in @edinburgh_CC would not have consequences for the many people who NEED S/C for reasons other than a wee holiday. Plus, if they can actually find something they'll soon be paying the tourist tax too. 🙄 #SaveSC

When even the 🏴 B&B of the Year in Ayrshire was forced to closedown.. it was a sign that the legislation was having unintended consequences. To not rectity the law now is callous neglect by @scotgov.

Delighted that the Tour de France 2027 is coming to Scotland, in a historic first.
The Grand Départ from Edinburgh will be spectacular - and it’s a real vote of confidence in Scotland as a top destination for major events.

On point regarding business closures and impacts on mental health. STL licensing legislation will be considered one of the most damaging pieces of legislation forced on Scotland since the establishment of Holyrood. What else has destroyed thousands of jobs?

Save Self Catering Scotland have said: “Looks like we will have another bumper crop of black market below-the-radar accommodation being offered to desperate Edinburgh Fringe performers unable to afford the diminishing supply of self-catering left in Edinburgh."
@SaveSCScotland @FionaCampbell74
"Crackdowns on short-term lets (STL) in an effort to combat the housing crisis have seemingly caused the shortage of accommodation.
"Ridiculously high rents have been reported in the news with some Fringe accommodation providers hiking their prices into the thousands."

None of this is ok.
Nimbyism, community policing, and a destruction of community cohesion.
#STL licensing has been a total shambles, and has zero benefits.
It is time to stop scapegoating and admit that this policy is a failure, and find a solution.
