Una Ryan

Waking up this morning to the news that the wonderful lady, Liz Howard, has passed away made me and all who knew her very, very sad. Liz was an exceptional lady and indeed, both in Aer Lingus and the GAA, was a trailblazer for all women. Her love for the blue and gold of Tipperary was total. Anyone who dared to criticise any Tipp player in her presence felt the heat of her stout defence. Only recently when in the Mater she escaped her sick bed; to the staff she was "going out to see some friends" - she was all 40,000 of them at the Tipp vs. Cork Munster Hurling match. Her work as PRO and later President of the Camogie Association was fantastic. On a personal note I will always be grateful for her friendship, informed advice and massive support in my election campaigns. Sárbhean imithe uainn ach beidh a rian le feiceáil go deo. Ar dheis Dé gi raibh Liz.

20 years ago, the @officialgaa took a bold step in amending Rule 42 to open Croke Park to rugby and soccer. It wasn’t without controversy — but it made the GAA stronger, not weaker. Proud to have been part of that moment. seankelly.eu/news/rule-42-a-…
