I’m so disappointed. Last year, Andy Burnham stood alongside Massive Attack and called the #FossilFuelTreaty a “lifeline.” He urged governments to end coal, oil and gas expansion and hold polluters accountable. Yesterday, his government approved a new North Sea gas field. 🧵

Miatta can clearly see right from wrong but she's now rowed into line twice with a Labour government siding with Shell & Donald Trump on oil and gas & now on cruel immigration reforms. What is the point of Labour if they don't even do the basics to protect people & the planet?
Today I made what was meant to be a light-hearted self-deprecating remark. I didn’t get it right and it hasn’t come off as I intended. I fully support our Home Secretary and the government’s position on migration reform. As I said earlier this week, it’s absolutely right that people should have to make a contribution to this country in order to earn citizenship.

Literally a Year ago @andyburnham sat with @MassiveAttackUK and signed the Fossil Fuel non-proliferation treaty "to end, coal, oil and gas and hold polluters accountable" Today he has just signed off a brand new Gas-field in the North Sea. Shameful #Jackdaw fossilfueltreaty.org/massive…

To be clear, the legal obligation on British government to act to prevent genocide does not require it to accept that it is a genocide, it only requires knowledge of a "serious risk" of genocide. To say we'll wait for ICJ decision is a failure to comply with the law.
‘Once you accept it’s a genocide, states have to act immediately.’   Andy Burnham won’t call what’s happening in Gaza a genocide, @NickFerrariLBC asks @HZomlot why not.

I wrote last year about the ‘Integrity gap’ in UK politics as part of the Robin Cook memorial lecture. “The public see a political class whose proximity to wealth has corroded its independence and whose language of public service has become a hollowed-out ritual.”

It’s not normal in the middle of a health and climate crisis to actively promote highly polluting products that make things worse. Congratulations to Bristol which has just become the latest UK city to end ads for things like fossil fuels, flights & SUVs bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmly…

Democracy for sale: Billionaires should not be able to bankroll British politics and buy political influence. It is time this government introduced a cap on donations.

If this had been a Just Stop Oil protest the police would have been all over this. Not only would hundreds have been dragged away by now but the police would definitely have known about this in advance The Home Office has serious questions to answer

The government simultaneously telling people to stock up on food, and going ahead with extracting more fossil fuels from the North Sea bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj9x… The fact that they can't connect the two, shows they haven't a clue about what climate breakdown actually means

There's a discussion on BlueSky about choosing the appropriate 2°C global carbon budget that aligns with the UNFCCC, Paris, ICJ, etc, climate commitments. The discussion is here: bsky.app/profile/did:plc:rkm… My succinct two-penn'orth response is attached to this message.

Nothing represents “business as usual” and “neoliberalism” quite like the oil industry: an extractive model that has generated trillions in profits while helping push the planet towards an increasingly uninhabitable future. If the PM is serious about his stated ambitions, then allowing further extraction while the world quite literally burns would send the opposite message to the British public. It would suggest that, when confronted with the power and interests of the fossil fuel industry, those ambitions are negotiable. If we believe oil still has a strategic role during the transition, then nationalise it and treat remaining reserves as a strategic national asset. Better still, leave as much of it in the ground as possible. But allowing new oil to be extracted and sold on international markets for billions in private profit, while doing little to lower UK household bills, is incompatible with any government claiming to be serious about the climate crisis, particularly if it wants to retain credibility on the international stage.

Britain is burning through its fifth heatwave of the summer. And the government is considering drilling for MORE oil and gas. Rosebank and Jackdaw must be stopped.

Paul Marshall, the co-owner of GB News, has tripled his hedge fund investments in fossil fuel companies in the first quarter of 2026 to £2.1bn. They're a propaganda channel cashing in on destroying our future. Always follow the money.
