30 years ago today, President Bill Clinton was re-elected to a second term as President of the United States.
In his November 5, 1996, victory speech, he reflected on the progress made over the previous four years and looked ahead to the work still to come. He spoke about putting differences aside, finding common ground and building on the shared values that bring Americans together.
"America always wins" when we set aside our differences and work together, he told the crowd that night.
Three decades later, his message about the importance of unity and working together continues to resonate.

With the passing of Dolores Huerta, Hillary and I have lost a dear friend, and we’ve all lost a stalwart champion of working Americans.
Dolores wore many hats: voting rights advocate, human rights champion, die-hard Democrat, self-described “born-again feminist,” and co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America. To see her in action was to witness a living legend who never stopped pushing for progress and seeing every new obstacle as a fresh opportunity to educate, to organize, and to uplift—even as those efforts sometimes brought her grave consequences. I will never forget and always be grateful for her support for Hillary in 2008 and 2016. It was an honor to award her the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award in 1998 and a great gift to spend time with and fight alongside her.
Our hearts go out to her family and the countless Americans whose lives were forever changed by her good long life.

“I want to build a football team where everybody is taught that if we work together, we can be better than everybody else.”
President @BillClinton shared these words about the power of working together at the @LRTouchdownClub where he joined Jerry Jones earlier this week as Jones announced a $10 million gift from his family to support the modernization and renovation of the Clinton Presidential Center.
That spirit of working together will help carry the Center’s mission of education, public service, and bringing people together into the future.

Václav Havel helped his people win their freedom. On what would have been his 90th birthday, a personal tribute from a friend and partner in turning people’s hopes into history.
Václav Havel believed that truth was better than fear, freedom was worth fighting for, and Europe’s future belonged to everyone. He devoted his life to those convictions and helped change the course of history.
On what would have been his 90th birthday, I’m remembering my friend with gratitude for his courage, his love of our common humanity, and the work we did together to bring the Czech Republic into NATO and build a Europe no longer divided.
We also shared a love of music. So today, I’m playing a few notes in his honor. Happy birthday, my friend. The world could use more of your spirit.

"Sometimes slogans work because they are true, and in its way, the song helped catalyze policymaking that has had lasting impact."
Thirty-five years after @shawnlandres suggested Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop" as a campaign song to then-Governor Bill Clinton, he writes that the song still offers hope for tomorrow.

Something worth remembering 25 years after 9/11: in the aftermath of catastrophe, people look around, they see what is needed, and they help.

One of the important lessons worth learning from 9/11 is that government should be about producing results for people, @HillaryClinton argues. “We must make sure that ‘never forget’ remains not just a slogan but a solemn promise,” she writes: theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…

In my decades of public service, I have rarely been as angry as I was the day the damning inspector general’s report was released about the EPA's response to the World Trade Center collapse.
One of the most important lessons from 9/11 is that our leaders need to level with people and then follow through with actual results.
