30 years ago today, President Bill Clinton was re-elected to a second term as President of the United States.
In his November 5, 1996, victory speech, he reflected on the progress made over the previous four years and looked ahead to the work still to come. He spoke about putting differences aside, finding common ground and building on the shared values that bring Americans together.
"America always wins" when we set aside our differences and work together, he told the crowd that night.
Three decades later, his message about the importance of unity and working together continues to resonate.

Then and now. The commitment to national service continues.
President Clinton established AmeriCorps in 1993, expanding opportunities for Americans to serve their communities. More than three decades later, he recently took the stage at City Year’s Opportunity Summit to celebrate the young people who continue to make service a force for change.
The years have passed, but the mission remains: bringing people together to strengthen communities and create opportunities for the next generation.
What’s your problem? We’re back with another conversation about the challenges people are working to solve.
This time, we’re talking with @newvotersorg, a nonpartisan organization that helps high school students lead voter registration drives and engage their classmates in civic life.
Their approach: give young people the tools to make a difference, and let them lead.

With the passing of Dolores Huerta, Hillary and I have lost a dear friend, and we’ve all lost a stalwart champion of working Americans.
Dolores wore many hats: voting rights advocate, human rights champion, die-hard Democrat, self-described “born-again feminist,” and co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America. To see her in action was to witness a living legend who never stopped pushing for progress and seeing every new obstacle as a fresh opportunity to educate, to organize, and to uplift—even as those efforts sometimes brought her grave consequences. I will never forget and always be grateful for her support for Hillary in 2008 and 2016. It was an honor to award her the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award in 1998 and a great gift to spend time with and fight alongside her.
Our hearts go out to her family and the countless Americans whose lives were forever changed by her good long life.
We're remembering Dolores Huerta, the trailblazing civil rights and labor leader who co-founded the United Farm Workers and helped lead the fight for farmworkers’ rights.
Her decades of advocacy helped shape the labor and civil rights movements and inspired generations to stand up for better working conditions and a more equitable world. Her legacy will endure in the people she empowered and the movements she helped build.
In 2022, we honored Huerta with the Clinton Global Citizen Award.
