Dear Players,
Great athletes don't talk about how great they are. They just show up day after day doing what they need to do.

Bill Belichick said, "It's not all about talent. It's about dependability, consistency, and being able to improve. If you work hard and you're coachable, and you understand what you need to do, you can improve."
Great teams have greater commitment.
They strive for excellence.

"We're such an instant gratification era ... We're trying to skip the step of adversity and growth ... but we're gonna have to face it.

Some people will never understand your competitive spirit & that’s okay. Never tone down your drive to make others comfortable. Those who share your fire don’t need an explanation. Those who don’t, never will. Stay true to what fuels you. Keep chasing what sets your soul on fire.

A coach can care deeply about a player and still make decisions the player dislikes.
A player can respect a coach and still disagree with those decision.
Healthy relationships can survive disagreement.

How do coaches determine playing time?
Pretty simple.

"You don’t get rewarded for doing what is required."@inkyjohnson
Greatness is not given to a chosen few. Greatness is given to the few who choose to do 'more than what's required'.
To be great, you have to give great -great sacrifice, great focus, great discipline, great effort.
100% agree with this list. I still love what I do every day!
10 Inconvenient Truths of Coaching
1. Not every kid wants to be great.
2. You will often be misunderstood.
3. Some parents care more about playing time than team success.
4. Your best players aren’t always your best leaders.
5. No system works without buy-in.
6. Success brings criticism, too.
7. Culture isn’t built in a week; it’s built daily.
8. You can’t coach every player the same way.
9. Wins don’t always reflect your impact.
10. The job takes more from you than it gives… until years later.
Still worth every second.
Still a great profession.

Your players don't need another friend.
They need a coach.
"I'm not here to be your friend. I'm here to push you, challenge you, help you be successful."

QT: Can you be both?
🔥🎯
Titles can identify captains. But they can’t create leaders.
I love this from Marcus Freeman:
“We have a whole bunch of guys who are going to choose to lead. They don’t need a title to lead.”
That’s what great teams need.
Not 2 or 3 captains doing all the leading.
A locker room full of people willing to speak up.
Hold the standard.
Bring energy.
Help a teammate.
Do the right thing when nobody is watching.
Too many players wait for permission to lead.
They think they need a “C” on their jersey, need to be a senior, or need the coach to name them something.
You don’t.
Leadership isn’t a position you’re given.
It’s a choice you make.
Every single day. 👇

Here’s what great teams don’t do:
They don’t make excuses.
They don’t point fingers.
They don’t blame teammates, coaches, officials, or circumstances.
They own it.
They learn from it.
They fix it.
Accountability changes everything.
