High School sports coaches if you have rough 1st year just hang in there and build for the future. I had 7 kids this year in track and field. Focus on the kids you have and grow. The numbers will grow. The future is always bright. #adaptandovercome

Average is acceptable.
Until you decide you want to be great.

Getting better isn’t luck, it’s a process:
Mindset → Growth over Fixed
Consistency → Improve daily
Habits → Small wins stack up
No limits → Don’t box yourself in
Every rep, every day, every choice matters.

Peyton Manning shares what really drives team success.
"I think it has to start with preparation. I was never out there just winging it and saying, 'Okay, I'm gonna try this play and see if it works.'"
"Every audible I called, I'd spent a lot of time preparing and watching film and making my notes saying, 'Hey, if the defense does this, this is what I'm going to audible to.'"
It might look like your instincts, but it's built on hours of preparation.
Then he explained the key to making changes in the moment:
"When you're making a change, everybody has to be on board. And they have to be prepared for it not to work and they still have to be on board."
Buy-in doesn't mean only when it works - it means especially when it doesn't.
"They don't always work out. But the majority of times they did because everybody was on board, everybody had bought in, and everybody was executing the play with a lot of passion."
"There's instincts. There's guts and courage. But the more preparation you can put in to survey the possible scenarios and what changes you have to make - the better off."
Preparation means showing up with intention.
It's foundational for success.
Preparation builds confidence.
Communication builds trust.
Buy-in makes it work.

Culture is intentional.
Shaka Smart’s 26-page culture blueprint shows exactly how they do it.
"We say culture is simply how we act, interact, and respond. That's it."

“Negative experiences without teaching kill morale.”
This is such an important coaching lesson.
Players are going to fail. They are going to make mistakes.
The question: What do we do with it?

HOT TAKE:
You can be a great coach and still have a losing season.
You can be a poor coach and win a championship.
The scoreboard doesn’t always tell the whole story.

Championship teams don’t get lucky.
They take their vitamins.
Attitude. Belief. Commitment. Discipline. Energy. Focus. Grit. Humility.
Simple. Not easy.
Which one does your team need most right now?

What if fitness isn't the bottleneck to faster speed?
What if we don't care about VO2 Max in HS XC?
What if we focused on more quality work and got that through 400s and 800s?
There's heart rate training and then there's what @CoachClarkTF has cooked up this season.
It's why Trenton (@AltamontXCTF ) and I love talking with Demetrius because we're challenged to think differently.

WORK ETHIC ELIMINATES FEAR

The victim mindset is a coach’s worst nightmare.
Blaming, making excuses, living in fear, comparing, refusing ownership; it’s a recipe for mediocrity.
Winners reject it.

Mack Brown shares the winning habits that he tried to instill in all of his teams. He calls them the 3 C's.
1. Complacency
"Complacency is a disease and it's really hard to fight that disease for all of us."
Success hinges on doing the work, while complacency lacks enthusiasm and is full of indifference.
"Every day that you get up, if you don't have an edge and complacency sets in, somebody's gonna do better than you. 'Cause somebody's gonna have that edge and they're after you."
2. Consistency
"Consistency is a gift, but it's so hard to do. 'Cause if you're complacent, you can't be consistent."
You can't show up sometimes and expect to win.
3. Confidence
"If you don't have confidence in this world, you get eaten up."
Then he connected it to parenting:
"We gotta be careful that we don't baby our kids so much and cover them up and take care of them that they realize they've never done anything themselves 'cause you did it for them."
Confidence isn't given. It's built through your preparation and what you do.
Then he tied it all together:
"Complacency kills. Confidence is a powerful thing. And consistency with that confidence is why you win."
Your success comes from doing the work, doing it consistently, and working through the adversity.
