The world can shake our circumstances without stealing the joy God has placed within us.
Revisit First & 10: “Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory.” 1 Peter 1:8.

Happiness can disappear when circumstances change. Biblical joy doesn't have to.
My newest First & 10 explores faith, adversity and the promise of 1 Peter 1:8.

A year ago, one of my players told me, “Jesus gave us His life. I’m going to give Him my time.”
I remember thinking, "Let’s see how this ages."
A year later, he gave me my answer.
A Shepherd’s Reward | First & 10. 🙏🏼

We cannot control whether someone apologizes.
We cannot make somebody forgive us.
We cannot make somebody want peace.
But we can decide who we become when they don't.
“Lord, what would You change in us?”

What hurts us may deserve our attention.
It does not deserve our worship.
When the wound keeps pulling our eyes sideways, faith calls us to look upward.
The wound doesn’t get the final word.

“Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you.” — James 4:8
We bring the conditions.
The expectations.
The pride.
The need for control.
Maybe today we simply put down the knife and come closer.
Don’t bring a knife to a nigh fight. 💙🙏🏼
Enjoy this week’s First & 10!

Jesus knew Judas would betray Him. But He didn't take away Judas' seat at the table.
He passed him the bread.
Love isn't tested around people who adore us. It's tested around people who don't.

We're all tempted to keep an invisible ledger of who owes us what.
The Gospel invites us to close the book.
Keeping Score is today's #FirstAnd10.
If it encourages you, please share it with someone who needs a little grace today. 💙

Sometimes the greatest victory isn't winning. Sometimes it's surviving the next five minutes.

Touchdowns disappear.
Scores fade away.
The Kingdom never does.
This week's First & 10 is about stewardship, surrender, and trusting God to write the next chapter -- long before we can see it.
"The Bigger Story."

Most of us spend more time talking to ourselves than we do anyone else.
The problem is some of us lol aren't very good company.
The first identity crisis in history prompted God to ask one simple question:
"Who told you that?"

Are you thriving?
Not surviving.
Not enduring.
Not limping from one day to the next.
Thriving.
A conversation with my bride Laurie Beth, a former player named Dylan, and one uncomfortable question:
Am I thriving spiritually?

Success can make us comfortable. Failure can make us teachable.
Sometimes God does His best work when the streak ends.

Two pilots.
A dark sky.
Nobody watching.
Or so they thought.
The crash of Pinnacle Airlines Flight 3701 wasn't caused by one mistake.
It was caused by a series of small decisions that quietly lined up.
Life works the same way.
Sometimes the most dangerous damage is the damage nobody can see.

I once spent 41 minutes trapped at a railroad crossing with legendary South Carolina coach Ray Tanner.
The train eventually passed.
The lesson never did.
"Win anyway."
Rainstorm?
Win anyway.
Injuries?
Win anyway.
Bad conditions?
Win anyway.
Faith doesn't wait for perfect circumstances.
It trusts God and moves forward.

The Air Force Thunderbirds fly just 18 inches apart at hundreds of miles per hour.
They call it Blind Trust.
God often asks us to do the same.
Not because He gives us all the answers.
Because He has already proven He can be trusted.
Trust first. Understanding later.

Every new chapter requires an ending.
Moses to Joshua.
Elijah to Elisha.
John the Baptist to Jesus.
The Kingdom of God has always moved forward.
So must we.
Bitterness is heavy luggage.
Grace travels lighter. 💙🏈🙏🏼

One of the hardest things a coach ever has to do is tell someone:
“You’re not a good fit anymore.”
But a closed door is not a life sentence.
Truth matters.
Accountability matters.
But believers are also called to leave room for grace, repentance, and restoration.

Memorial Day was never supposed to become “Lake Weekend with Better Mattress Sales.”
At 69 years old, former Marine Skip Nix still stands silently at attention for two hours every Memorial Day on a Greensboro street corner honoring America’s fallen heroes.
No politics.
No microphone.
No performance.
Just remembrance.
His story reminded me that freedom always costs somebody something.
And ultimately, so did our salvation.
