We are too often eager to provide answers, the “patterns of expected play” that fit the picture we see before us. We don’t allow for players who think outside the box and break the pattern or norm—where you can find skilful players! Well done to your lad. 🔥

A little story about my 8 year old son & a moment of improvisation A moment that stopped me in my tracks & left me wondering where it had come from 🧵

Nick talks about “keeping the door open” Creating environments where our players can explore, solve problems, make their own decisions & feel safe to get things wrong Rather than *always* telling them what to do or how to do it

I don't know where my son got the idea from. And I don’t think it really matters. What matters to me is that he trusts his instincts and feels free to try it whether it comes off or not. Time and time again.

2 of the best coaching points I ever heard about this (that I've stolen!) are 1⃣ Start where the defender can't see you 2⃣Start where you don't want to receive the ball Then give players complete freedom to solve the problems in any way they see fit.
Off the ball movement is the most under-coached and most lacking skill in US youth soccer. I have my theories.

When adults dictate every decision in the game, the players become dependent on them making the decisions, instead of using their own judgment. When the adults let the players make judgements, make mistakes, and solve problems on their own, the players learn what the game is all about.

🚨New Post!🚨 Understanding isn’t the first step towards fixing a problem. Sometimes it changes what we think needs fixing. Link in post below.

Our first ever piece of merchandise is officially sold out. When we ordered the bobble hats, I genuinely didn't think we'd sell them all. Honestly, expected to be left with a box full, wondering what we were thinking. Instead, they're across the UK, in the USA, in Canada, on coaches' heads while they're coaching, on the sideline, at conferences, in moments we never anticipated. The real highlight came on Sunday at Leicester City Training Ground, at the Sunday Share CPD event. Walking around and seeing coaches from different parts of the country wearing the hats together. That pinch-me moment where something we made became part of how people recognised each other, how they showed they were part of something. That matters more than the numbers. You received photos from coaches coaching in them. ⇢ From coaches on sidelines. ⇢ From people who bought them and made them part of their work. • That's not just merchandise sold. • That's community. • That's people deciding The Sporting Resource was worth wearing, worth representing, worth being part of visibly. To everyone who supported the platform by buying a hat a genuine thank you. You believed in what we're building enough to wear it. You brought the community into physical spaces, made it visible, made it real. So here's the question, shall we do this again? We're thinking about next winter. ➟ Different colours maybe. ➟ Different designs. But the same idea, something that says "I'm part of this, I believe in this, I'm coaching differently because of this community". Let us know, tell us what you'd want to see and thank you for making the first run sold out. That's on you.

What should every young player experience? Joy. @movementcoachkm getting to the heart of the matter on episode 2 of How To Build A Football Brain.
Are we coaching the creativity out of players? @movementcoachkm joins me for episode two of How to Build a Football Brain to discuss what happens when players become afraid to try—and how we can give them room to explore. youtu.be/DGOH1h19RYE

The TSR Black & White Baseball Cap is now available to buy. A black cap finished with bold white TSR embroidery on the front and The Sporting Resource embroidered across the back. We’ve kept the numbers limited again, so there won’t be an endless supply once these start going. As with all of our hats, the profits go directly back into The Sporting Resource and help fund the next improvements we make to the page, website and resources. You can get yours here: thesportingresource.co.uk/st…

It's essential that youth coaches have a basic understanding of the 4 Corner Model. 🔴Technical 🟡Physical 🟢Psychological 🔵Social Understanding both the players' strengths and areas of development will help us cater to their needs and wants. @SundayShare10
