Fanbases never understand demographic shifts. When PSU was PSU, PA was full of steelworkers’ and miners’ kids who were hard kids. Western PA was so stacked PSU AND Pitt were BOTH national powerhouses. Now Pittsburgh is packed with soft children of health/tech executive yuppies.

What makes the difference between abusive monster & beloved legend is the post-career relationships & memories. The stories about Skip’s behavior from former players mostly sound incarceratable, but they💩themselves laughing while telling them, which tells me all I need to know.

Many times, coaches have headed to a school to interview fully intent on not taking it if offered, then gotten on campus and changed their minds. For this reason, and others, were I an AD I would focus my search less on most interested and more on most interesting.
