I predict President of USA will be Trump & the polls are wrong again - feels like GE 2015 & Brexit again,Bookies never want favourite to win
Just lies
Re-upping this Makerfield focus group from last week in light of headlines around PM re-opening convo on EU. I thought he’d get a Brexit backlash. But my big surprise in group was that nearly all these leave voters had regret & open to PM’s look again

Dan - I think your mate Burnham has a big problem
It appears voters are tactically voting against this foul Labour government @DPJHodges

Brexit didn't cause the structural hollowing out of our economy; the 2008 crash did. The EU isn't a progressive haven, rejoining won't fix our problems. It's a distraction from the real task: a rupture with neoliberal orthodoxy. My piece for @politicshome buff.ly/eW4uUl3
“With tactical voting” - the problem is the “tactic” in this poll is to vote against Reform when in reality all “tactical voting” under FPTP is against the incumbent government (that’s what happened to the Sunak government in 2024 and in the Makerfield by-election to bring down the Starmer government)
In my opinion “with tactical voting” this poll would show a Reform clear lead

Le Pen has already said “no deal” without cross party support
The fullest plan yet for Britain to rejoin the European Union has been published in the wake of the Prime Minister’s call for a closer relationship with the bloc. Today the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), an influential centre-left think tank, publishes two substantial reports laying out the most serious approach yet to rejoining the EU, as Andy Burnham’s pro-European tilt begins to take on a life of its own.

No replies - only an idiot is going to reopen the debate about Scottish independence - Scots have no interest in devolution - all this does is force another independence referendum which they will probably win as the average age of a Scots voter is over 60 - and they all support independence

The danger of opening the possibility of second referendums when the majority voting population is now over 60
Independence would win
He’s an idiot / he’s opening the door to a second independence referendum
I think yes would win due to the older population of Scots who support independence
Prime Minister Andy Burnham says the "time has come" for deeper devolution in Scotland and to unlock a feeling of positivity for young people, who he says are missing out on opportunities.

Unfortunately they view the SNP as the only way to get a second independence referendum
If they won, they would vote for other parties
Half of Scots view SNP as incompetent with majority branding party 'out of touch' and 'untrustworthy'

Two mistakes -
almost no Brits live in the EU - most of them are British pensioners with holiday homes in Europe but have French, Spanish, Greek or Portuguese National Insurance numbers
there are now more people over the age of 60 that can vote in the UK and that is increasing due to a falling birth rate.
There were 3 referendums a decade ago - only the Scottish independence referendum could be overturned as it’s mainly supported by older Scots voters and now there are more of them
Young people don’t vote so no EU referendum could now by won with so many older voters who hate the EU
Why would we want to go near the EU?
They are bankrupt and need money - they are on the verge of collapse next year
🇪🇺💸EU leaders fail to agree on €1.7 trillion defense budget
An EU summit in Brussels ended in failure. Leaders had planned to approve the bloc’s 2028–2034 budget, worth €1.76 trillion and featuring increased military spending. But they couldn’t reach an agreement: an attempt to cut spending by €140 billion sparked a bitter dispute between wealthy donor countries and the main beneficiaries of the EU budget.
◽️The end of the meeting was telling. European leaders could think of nothing better than to cancel the closing press conference. Heads of state and government, including Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, hurriedly left the European Council building, refusing to answer journalists’ awkward questions about the financial future of a “united Europe.”
This was the danger of agreeing to second referendums
There were 3 “once in a generation” referendums and the only one that is likely to be overturned is the 2014 Scottish independence referendum
The 2016 EU and Proportional Representation voting referendums are unlikely to be overturned
Burnham is playing with the Union floating these ideas
Andy Burnham has ruled out a second independence referendum, The Telegraph understands.
The Prime Minister said during a speech in Motherwell that his view on the Union would not change and that he wanted to “move on” from a second referendum debate.
