As some of you will know, I've been working on book about punk - part teenage diary, part serious reflections on the times, from the NF to Peter Sutcliffe. Here's a podcast interview on it, which you may like to listen to / like / share / whatever CC x

Just started Alice Cooper's autobiography. Already I can tell its going to be excellent. This is NOT going to be the usual "wild men live crazy" rock & roll read.
Book 22 / 2026
Anthony Bourdain - Kitchen Confidential
25+ years late to this great romp, but entered the world of AB very back to front, starting w/the film 'Tony' about his youth, followed by the docu 'Roadrunner' about his sad end. This is the deservedly 'spotlight' middle.
Ossie Clark & Celia Birtwell at the Fashion & Textile Museum was fashion & textile heaven! Went w/my friend Silka, over from Germany, &, despite both being tomboys, we loved the version of femininity on show - sophisticated, cool, sexy & a wonderful part of 70s cultural language.
So fantastic to see a friend who works so hard at her art (photography) getting a serious solo show and also a mention in The Guardian as a 'best of' from #PhotoMonth.
Congrats darling Lou Melchior - at Gallery46 in Whitechapel till 25 October!
Book 21 / 2026
Linda Rosenkrantz - Peter Hujar's Day
This slight slip of a book is a delight; also the inspo for the film of the same name (which I still cannot find to stream!)
The late Peter Hujar is a magician, whose photos (Raven Row '25) almost moved me to tears.
Art about artists is such a phenomenon. Not sure what it says about the ZeitGeist, but I love it!
Finally caught up with this gem by Richard Linklater. Don't love all Godard's work, but I do adore 'Breathless' - the making of which is the subject here -

I loved Oasis from the second I heard 'Supersonic'. Even though I was in my 30s already, I was hooked like a teenager. We bought everything & saw them over and over - Earls Court, Wembley, even taking our kids to see them in Cardiff, just so they could say they were there.
I had no great interest in getting tickets for the new dates (tho' I did sell an old tour t-shirt for £450!). The documentary, however, is fab. Great to hear all that populist optimism again.

From probably my first TV appearance.
1977 with Mark P(erry). We were doing Sniffin' Glue punk fanzine at the time. Hippest thing on the scene.
We were old school pals suddenly having a high old time suddenly being feted as scene setters.

If you are anywhere near Hull, I have a photography exhibition on at HOi, Princes Avenue this month. These photos are previously unseen for 40 plus years and were taken close by, mainly on Newland Avenue.
Thank you for looking.
