Respect always to the grassroots reparations campaigners & activists - who are often forgotten.
They have put in tireless work to keep the reparations movement alive before it became global headlines and topics on panel shows.
They are the real vanguards of the movement. 🫶🏾❤️

Barbados welcomes the UK Prime Minister’s acknowledgement of the brutality of the transatlantic slave trade, his openness to a formal apology and his offer of structured dialogue.
We will engage in good faith as a member of CARICOM, while speaking plainly and respectfully about our differences on reparations. Those differences should not prevent progress on health, education, tackling poverty and inequality, and fairer debt terms for vulnerable states.
The CARICOM Ten Point Plan remains our guide as we build on common ground and continue the pursuit of reparatory justice. We cannot reach our destination if we do not start the journey.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHAIR OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY,
THE HON. PHILIP J. PIERRE, PRIME MINISTER OF SAINT LUCIA |
REPARATORY JUSTICE
The Caribbean Community has taken careful note of the remarks published by the Right Honourable Andy Burnham MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, on Britain's role in the transatlantic trafficking and chattel enslavement of African bodies ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which opens in Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday.
Let me begin by recognising what is new.
Prime Minister Burnham has expressed personal sorrow and regret for the suffering caused by slavery and its continuing effects on the world today. He has said that he is open to a formal apology on behalf of the British state, and he has offered a structured dialogue with those affected. No British Prime Minister has gone this far before. It would be wrong of us not to say so, and we welcome it in the spirit in which it appears to be offered. For more than a decade, this Community has asked for exactly such a dialogue.
We are ready to engage.
But friendship requires candour, and so I must be equally clear about where we differ.
The Caribbean Community does not accept that reparations are "not the right answer". Nor do we accept the argument that responsibility falls away because the people of Britain today played no personal part in these crimes. Reparatory justice has never been about individual guilt. It is about the responsibility of states and institutions — and that responsibility does not expire with the passing of generations. We do believe that the successive generations continue to be the beneficiaries, materially, socially and psychologically of that crime of racialised chattel enslavement.

I commend Prime Minister Burnham and Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband for their moral leadership in recognising that confronting historical truth is not a sign of weakness, but an act of statesmanship and justice.

I miss when the entertainment industry actually felt connected!!!!!!!
Back then music, film, fashion and even ads all fed into each other. A pop star could have a song on a film soundtrack, a fashion moment and a brand deal that all contributed to the same era. Now an artist can have a whole album era and do a random brand deal that has nothing to do with their music or image
Everything feels so individual and transactional!!!!! We have more collaborations than ever but LESS cultural cohesion. Nobody seems interested in bringing everything together to create a whole world anymore. It’s such a dying art man.

I am NOT a Descendant of the Windrush!
The SS EMPIRE Windrush is a 🇬🇧 coloniser ship.
My Elders & Ancestors are not define by this 🇬🇧 Coloniser ship.
I am a Descendant of Afrikans enslaved in the Caribbean; & brought to 🇬🇧 under colonial domination.
Prof. Gus John breaks down how the manufactured Windrush identity and Popular narrative are tools of the 🇬🇧 State design to subdue Afrikan-Caribbean people & ensure we are enticed in to allegiance & celebration of 🇬🇧; rather than resistance to 🇬🇧 and it's continued (neo)colonial exploits.
May we heed... Ase 🙏🏿🖤

RIP Mighty Sparrow (9 Jul 1935 - 27 Sep 2026). Legendary #Trinbagonian #calypso and #soca vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist born Slinger Francisco, in Grand Roy, Grenada.
Widely regarded as the most influential figure in the history of calypso music. Though born in Grenada, he was raised from infancy in Port-of-Spain, #Trinidad, after his family relocated there in 1937, and it is with Trinidad and Tobago that he is most closely identified.
Sparrow's breakthrough came in 1956, when his composition "Jean and Dinah", a commentary on the withdrawal of American servicemen from Trinidad after World War II, won him the National Calypso King title and reshaped the art form's lyrical ambitions.
Over a career spanning more than seven decades, he has won Trinidad's Calypso Monarch title eight times and the Carnival Road March competition eight times, records that established him as, in his own popularized phrase, the "Calypso King of the World."
Beyond his competitive dominance, Sparrow's significance lies in his fusion of biting social and political satire with melodic accessibility, tackling colonialism, race, sexuality, and #Caribbean identity in songs such as "Slave," "Education," and "Congo Man."

We traded community for followers
I think we traded community for followers and convinced ourselves it was the same thing.
We are more visible than ever, but are we actually more known?
Growing up, community was aunties picking you up from school, airport runs, tood turning up at your house, people sitting with you when somebody died. Nobody posted it. You just showed up.
Now we have thousands of people watching our lives, but who can you actually call at 4am?
I don't think we need to go backwards. I just think somewhere between "protect your peace", "choose yourself" and "cut them off", we forgot that needing people is part of being human.
