President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan:
“Today, we also discussed the latest developments concerning various regional issues, including Gaza, Ukraine and the Gulf.
We hope that diplomatic efforts will pave the way for lasting peace in both Ukraine and the Gulf. We reaffirmed our shared position on this matter.
Regarding Gaza, we consider the sanctions imposed by Canada, together with some of its allies, targeting illegal settlements, to be an appropriate step towards deterring violations by the Israeli government.
We hope that Canada and its allies will maintain this stance in support of establishing peace and stability in our region.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan:
“We are in close contact with Canada on issues related to the defence industry and nuclear energy.
We are two allies who recognise the importance of cooperation in the defence industry. We witnessed this most recently at the NATO Summit held in Ankara.
A Memorandum of Understanding on partnerships in the defence sector has just been signed.
We expect the Defence, Security and Resilience Bank, which is being established under Canada's leadership to provide financing for the defence industries of allied countries, to contribute to our cooperation in this field.
There is broad scope for cooperation in the energy sector, ranging from mining and LNG to critical minerals and nuclear energy.
The joint declaration on energy cooperation adopted by our energy ministries highlights the significant potential for cooperation in this field, including nuclear energy.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Mark Carney of Canada:
“During our meeting with the Prime Minister today, we thoroughly reviewed our bilateral relations and had the opportunity to discuss regional and global issues.
Undoubtedly, one of the most concrete outcomes of this visit was our decision to elevate our relations with Canada to the level of a strategic partnership.
Building on our decision to establish a strategic partnership, we aim to launch new projects in various fields, including energy, trade, transport and the defence industry, in the period ahead.
Today, we also adopted an action plan that includes concrete steps to be taken in this direction.
First and foremost, we agreed to launch negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement before the end of the year with a view to increasing trade and investment.
In parallel with this process, we will make more effective use of existing mechanisms, including the Joint Economic and Trade Committee, to address all aspects of our economic relations.
We will host the next meeting of this committee in 2027, this time with the participation of private sector representatives from both countries.
Through these steps, we hope to increase our current bilateral trade volume, which stands at approximately 3 billion dollars, first to 5 billion dollars and subsequently to 10 billion dollars.
With the updated Air Transport Agreement, we will approximately double the number of direct flights between our countries.”
Statement by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Mark Carney
His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye and the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada today launched the Türkiye - Canada Strategic Partnership.
In an increasingly complex global security environment, rising geopolitical uncertainties, and evolving humanitarian challenges, a strong and resilient Türkiye-Canada partnership is essential, providing a foundation to mitigate shared threats and capitalise on new opportunities. This Strategic Partnership will fundamentally deepen and elevate the level of cooperation between Türkiye-Canada in support of shared objectives in expanding political dialogue, enhancing economic growth and trade, raising technological development and furthering common security.
As NATO Allies, Türkiye and Canada are bound together by shared values: human rights, individual liberties, democracy and the rule of law. Building on 83 years of diplomatic relations, the Partnership reflects the two countries’ commitment to realise the full potential of the relationship by growing trade and investments, boosting collaboration on energy projects and natural resources, promoting security and defence cooperation, and fostering ever closer government-to-government and people-to-people ties. To deliver on this vision, the leaders launched a three-year Action Plan anchored in four pillars.
On trade, investment and innovation, the leaders agreed to work toward successful conclusion of a Türkiye - Canada Free Trade Agreement; expand bilateral trade and investments in priority sectors including energy supply, defence production, aerospace, and AI; ratify the Türkiye -Canada Air Transport Agreement; and strengthen cooperation between trade and export agencies, including for cooperation into third countries. They also agreed to support greater collaboration among innovation ecosystems.
On energy, and climate cooperation, the leaders agreed to significantly advance collaboration across the energy sector, including liquefied natural gas, civil nuclear energy, renewable energy, clean technologies, and critical energy infrastructure resilience. They will encourage investment, support dialogue between nuclear stakeholders, strengthen cooperation on sustainable mining and critical minerals supply chains, and enhance collaboration on climate resilience, clean technologies, and environmental protection. The leaders welcomed the Joint Statement on Türkiye-Canada Cooperation in the Field of Energy agreed by their respective Ministers of Energy and Natural Resources. Canada welcomes Türkiye's hosting and Presidency of the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), to be held in Antalya on 9-20 November 2026, and expressed its readiness to work closely with the Turkish Presidency for a successful outcome.
On defence and security, the leaders underlined their intent to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including in NATO, as envisaged in the Statement of Intent on Defence Cooperation. They agreed to strengthen cooperation in support of peace and security in the Euro-Atlantic region and beyond including Ukraine, South Caucasus, and the Middle East, in particular Gaza. They welcomed the conclusion of a Defence Sector Partnerships MOU between the Secretariat of Defence Industries of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye and Global Affairs Canada, that will facilitate the expansion of defence industry partnerships and ongoing discussions on opportunities to further expand defence cooperation in key areas of joint interest, building on the recently signed Statement of Intent on Defence Cooperation. They underscored the importance of initiating a dialogue to strengthen cooperation in mutual legal assistance in criminal matters and extradition.
On government-to-government dialogue and people-to-people ties, the leaders agreed to establish an annual Türkiye - Canada Strategic Dialogue, continue holding annual Joint Economic and Trade Committee meetings, as well as Political-Military and Counter-Terrorism consultations, strengthen cooperation on consular issues and migration, explore measures to facilitate travel and mobility, and support cultural exchanges and diaspora engagement.
President Erdoğan and Prime Minister Carney agreed, through their Foreign Ministers, to oversee the implementation of the three-year Action Plan with a view to deepening their bilateral partnership, promoting international security and building prosperous and green economies of the future.
Prime Minister Carney, on the occasion of the first visit of a Head of Government between two countries, expressed appreciation to the Government of Türkiye for the warm and friendly hospitality. Türkiye welcomed the invitation for President Erdoğan to visit Canada at a mutually convenient time.

The posts circulating on certain social media accounts targeting the Maritime Jurisdiction Agreement between Türkiye and Libya and claiming that Türkiye is destabilising the Eastern Mediterranean constitute clear disinformation aimed at manipulating public opinion.
Signed by two sovereign states to protect their legitimate rights, the agreement has completed the ratification processes in both countries and entered into force in full compliance with international law and the principles of equity.
The targeting of Türkiye by actors seeking to turn the Eastern Mediterranean into a zone of conflict and making unlawful claims over maritime areas in which they are not parties is an attempt to cover up their own violations. As it has always done, anytime and everywhere, Türkiye remains committed to peace, stability and equity in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The public is strongly urged not to give credence to the baseless allegations of those who trample on all laws and norms in the region and target the legitimate agreements of sovereign states.
Presidency's Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran:
"Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye continues to contribute to peace, tranquillity and stability in our region by strengthening cooperation in the fields of defence and security.
The “Badr” Memorandum of Understanding, signed in Doha, the capital of Qatar, between the defence ministries of Türkiye, Qatar, Indonesia and Pakistan, marked an important step toward strengthening the strategic partnership between our friendly and brotherly nations.
I believe this agreement, which aims to promote cooperation in military production, enhance the military capabilities of the four countries, and facilitate joint work in the fields of technical military training and research and development (R&D), will further strengthen our solidarity in the defence sector.
I hope this important Memorandum of Understanding will prove beneficial for our countries."

On the occasion of this historic visit, bilateral relations between the two countries are envisaged to be elevated to the level of Strategic Partnership.
The two sides will undertake a comprehensive review of cooperation between Türkiye and Canada, discuss further steps to advance bilateral relations, and exchange views on current regional and global issues.
The signing of agreements in various areas of bilateral cooperation is also planned as part of the visit."

Posts circulating in certain media outlets and on social media accounts claiming that “Europe is dumping its waste in Türkiye” constitute a gross manipulation that distorts the facts.
The import of waste for disposal, hazardous materials or non-recyclable rubbish into Türkiye is strictly prohibited. Only clean, source-separated waste intended for use as raw material in industry is permitted, provided it is processed at licensed facilities.
No shipment that fails to meet the required standards is allowed to enter Türkiye, and such shipments are immediately returned to their countries of origin. Accepted shipments are monitored in real time through tracking systems from customs clearance until they reach the processing facility. Inspections of facilities and entities that violate environmental legislation continue under a zero-tolerance policy.
The fact that this issue is being distorted and brought to the fore, particularly ahead of the COP31 Climate Summit to be hosted by Türkiye, clearly indicates a malicious attempt to manipulate public perception.
We urge the public not to give credence to such baseless and misleading content targeting Türkiye, a country that is leading environmental policies at the global level through the Zero Waste Movement, and to rely solely on official statements issued by the competent institutions and authorities.
