Founded by breast cancer survivors in 2006, UWOCASO supports women affected by cancer and their families through awareness, counselling, supportive care and advocacy. In Uganda, up to 89% of women with breast cancer are diagnosed at a late stage, making timely detection and access to care especially important. Through this initiative, we join other stakeholders in emphasising the need for regular screening, timely diagnosis and treatment, while celebrating the resilience of survivors. #MoveForHer #BreastCancerAwareness #EarlyDetectionSavesLives

I had almost given up on following up on the directive President @KagutaMuseveni gave me when we met again in February, 24 years after our first meeting. He asked me to follow up through Afande Elimu so I could meet him again. If this lands on your timeline, I humbly ask you to repost and tag @StateHouseUg or @KagutaMuseveni or anyone you know that can make this happen,so this directive can finally be acted upon. I have written letters, made calls, and followed up in every way I can. All I ask is for an opportunity to meet him again without having to pay anyone to make it happen. With all humility, please help me push this forward. ๐Ÿ™ @StateHouseUg @KagutaMuseveni

โWhen you work in human rights, you become emotionally invested in the work. You listen to peopleโ€™s painful experiences, witness injustice and carry these stories long after leaving the courtroom. We celebrate victories and landmark judgments, but we rarely talk about what the work costs the lawyers themselves, their families, their relationships and their peace of mind. We cannot keep celebrating sacrifice without asking what that sacrifice is costing. Lawyers are human beings too. They need space to rest, people they can talk to and institutions that care about the people doing the work, not just the work itself. We must also prepare the next generation to take over, transfer the knowledge we have accumulated and build institutions that can sustain the work beyond individual leaders. Eventually, we all have to step aside, and the question should not simply be what happens to us, but what happens to the work. We must continue defending human rights, but we cannot destroy ourselves in the process. The work matters, justice matters and human rights matter, but the people doing the work matter too. Even those who fight for others need care, support and rest.โž ~ Dr. Adrian Jjuuko, Lecturer School of law giving a key note speech at the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) training on โ€œ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‡๐ข๐๐๐ž๐ง ๐‚๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‹๐š๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ . #HealthAndTheLaw #ReproductiveJustice #CLETraining

Breast cancer does not have a single cause. It develops through a complex interaction of factors, including age, family history, inherited genetic changes, hormonal influences and certain lifestyle factors. However, many women diagnosed with breast cancer have no identifiable risk factors, making awareness and timely medical attention important for everyone. The scale is large. In 2022, an estimated 2.3 million women were diagnosed with breast cancer worldwide, and approximately 670,000 people died from the disease. In Uganda, an estimated 35,968 new cancer cases of all types were recorded in 2022, including 2,999 cases of breast cancer among women. Know what is normal for your breasts, seek medical attention promptly if you notice unusual changes. Early detection saves lives. Share this message with a woman you care about. #WorldBreastCancerDay | 19 October

Last year I campaigned with the slogan "Unified Youth Agenda". This week as district youth councilors in collaboration together with the Kabale district Woman MP Hon. Enid Origumisiiriza, we turned it into reality as we launched Thrive Impact Club at Ndorwa Sec School.
JustInโฐ: ๐ŸŒฑ EMPOWERING YOUNG PEOPLE, BUILDING RESILIENT COMMUNITIES: LOSCO AND PARTNERS ADVANCING YOUTH EMPOWERMENT IN KIGEZI Today, the Local Sustainable Communities Organisation (LOSCO) @CommunitiesOrg joined the Ndorwa Secondary School community in Kabale Municipality for the launch of the Thrive Impact Club, an initiative designed to empower young people in school and out of school while addressing challenges such as school dropouts and teenage pregnancies. The initiative was launched by Hon. Enid Origumisiriza, Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, and is being championed by Kabale District Youth Councillors Edgar and Natasha, in collaboration with partners committed to advancing youth development and wellbeing. The launch featured career guidance and mentorship, with emphasis on self-discovery, talent development, life skills, and informed decision-making. Participants also planted fruit trees, reinforcing the importance of environmental conservation and youth participation in sustainable community development. As part of the broader empowerment efforts, Hon. Enid Origumisiriza continues to support menstrual health and hygiene through the provision of reusable sanitary towels to schoolgirls, in partnership with Pad a Girl Child Foundation Uganda, helping promote dignity and support girls' continued participation in education. Speaking during the mentorship session, Mr. Taremwa Albert, @Consultalbert - Executive Director of LOSCO, encouraged students to make responsible choices and develop resilience in the face of peer pressure and life challenges. โ€œLife presents us with choices every day, and the decisions we make today shape our future. Making good choices requires self-awareness, discipline, and the courage to stand by your values, even when faced with peer pressure. Learn to think critically, consider the consequences of your actions, and seek guidance from trusted mentors.โ€ He Said He emphasised the importance of the 3Csโ€”Choices, Consequences, and Courageโ€”and encouraged students to believe in their potential, respect themselves and others, and remain focused on their aspirations. ๐Ÿค A Commitment to Long-Term Partnership and Youth Empowerment LOSCO recognises that sustainable youth empowerment requires long-term collaboration among schools, community leaders, elected representatives, youth structures, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders. We look forward to building and strengthening meaningful partnerships with Hon. Enid Origumisiriza, youth leaders, schools, and like-minded organisations to expand opportunities for young people both in and out of school. Through sustained collaboration, we aim to advance life skills, education retention, SRHR awareness, environmental stewardship, leadership, and community resilience. Together, we can nurture informed, confident, responsible, and empowered young people who contribute positively to their communities and shape a more inclusive and sustainable future. #LOSCO #YouthEmpowerment #ThriveImpactClub #Kigezi #CareerGuidance #Mentorship #SRHR #GirlsEducation #EnvironmentalConservation #CommunityPartnerships #YouthLeadership #SustainableDevelopment
