We went crazy on this one! We just released a huge library of FREE Greenscreen plates (150+ clips, more coming!) for VFX Artists.
I wanted to focus on things that make shots not feel like generic greenscreen cutout plates: so we planned specific light scenarios, various 3D Camera moves, lots of different actions, and a variety of other elements of production value in order to create something unique.
I'll be building some cool shots from these myself as I have a bunch of ideas, but hopefully other people will find this valuable as well!
The new studio workstation just arrived, and I’ve officially joined the Dell Pro Precision Ambassador program!
There are some insane specs on this machine, for creating studio-level productions:
Dell Pro Max Tower T2
NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell, 96GB VRAM!
Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
128GB Ram
4TB storage
The most powerful machine Compositing Academy has ever had.
This year has been a big one for our infrastructure, both physical and digital. Our studio projects have gotten a lot more complex: processing photogrammetry, lidar, and Gaussian splat datasets, handling large volumes of raw footage, developing and exploring new hybrid AI + VFX workflows and tools with ComfyUi, and rendering entire CG sequences in Blender to composite in Nuke.
The more ambitious our productions get, the more real-world workflows we can bring back to our students.
Huge thanks to Dell Technologies and NVIDIA for having me on board and providing this machine.

One surprising part of Corridor Key 2.0 is that it can pull green objects off of a greenscreen. The model uses a mix of segmentation and a custom trained greenscreen A.I model in order to do this.

This is an easy way you can make a tracking marker for out of focus shots, or heavily motion blurred shots on greenscreen. It turns the point into a trackable bokeh. (Or, you can use it on dark shots!)

There's a reason no studio adds stock elements inside the 3D software...
3D engines are bad at loading image sequences. Load 40 of them and watch what happens. Changing the timing of these elements in 3D is also impractical.
That's why 3D compositing exists.
Render the CG. Bring the camera into Nuke. Build the atmosphere there: same 3D space, no re-render, works with every 3D package.
