using government calculations for climate harm, burning Jackdaw's gas will cause an estimated £16.1 billion in global damage and over 8,000 heat-related deaths.
all of this for 27 jobs and no impact on gas prices.
no other way to describe this than an act of violence.

Jackdaw will do little to change either the cost of gas or the UK's supply situation. We were a net exporter of gas into the early 2000s but we've now been through a long period of falling production. More than half of the gas we burn now is imported. Jackdaw won't change that.

Breaking: the Met Police has submitted charging files to the Crown Prosecution Service resulting from its Grenfell fire investigation. The files cover 54 individuals and 20 companies and cover charges including fraud, misconduct in public office and manslaughter
Privatisation has failed so comprehensively that the government is having to create a competitor to the National Grid. Just nationalise the energy system, build out renewables at scale, and explain this is what you mean by ending Thatcherism.

1. Most (not all) money paid out in pensions returns to the economy in spending, so it's not lost or wasted, it doesn't disappear.
2. Means-testing is expensive. I worked (years ago) in means-tested benefits - more was paid out in employing staff than in paying benefits. (2/n)
Oh goody so mostly biphobia then? Does make me doubt the "negative view" numbers when the biphobic responses are like this
Replying to @YouGov
So why would so many straight people refuse to date bisexuals?
When we asked people to tell us in their own words, many gave vague or nondescript answers like "just don't" or "my preference", as well as generic expressions of discomfort
Among more specific answers, the most common are feelings of insecurity that bi partners are more likely to cheat or will otherwise miss having a same-sex partner

call me crazy if you will, but the argument ‘we invite paid panelists on to say factually incorrect things about disabled people & carers so those disabled people & carers listening as they struggle through their days can call & correct us for free’ is a poor argument for a show
I do feel like, unless a huge tax gets put on online only and chain businesses plus a big rent reduction for commercial spaces, there just isn't going to be a revival of the high street if vape shops get pushed out.

Replacing PIP with vouchers is the first move towards introducing a US style benefits system which has caused abject poverty for millions of America's poorest. For decades governments have refused to introduce such a system because of the indignity and difficulties it creates.

🚨BREAKING: Filton 4 sentenced as terrorists
Amnesty opposes the use of terrorism powers in this case.
It is completely disproportionate to punish protesters for criminal damage as if they were terrorists, a sentence which stays with you for life.
The defendants in today’s case were sentenced as terrorists because prosecutors want to make an example of them.
Today's decision shows how direct action protesters could be treated in the future.
The use of terrorism laws against direct action protesters must end.
Together we must continue calling out the abuse of power and fighting for our right to protest.

Also 69k HMRC staff (probably the biggest proportion of callers), some members of the armed forces, some other civil servants, various famous people ... it's literally just the line for people where there's a greater risk of privacy breaches and like 10 people work on it
Replying to @PolitlcsUK @Telegraph
The phone line, PD1, is typically reserved for MPs and Royals
Angela Rayner handled her tax affairs related to underpaying £40,000 in Stamp Duty on it
An HMRC spokesman said: “PD1 is not a ‘VIP service’ but a helpline for taxpayers whose records require greater protection and therefore can only be accessed by specialist staff. This can be for a number of reasons.”

So the argument here is that renters never have to make tough financial decisions? And presumably our bills just don't exist?
Replying to @AllyFogg
Do you think a man in is 40s in a rented house share is fit to lead a country? He's likely never had to manage a household or make tough financial decisions. He's living like a student and his politics are like that of a student union, angry and thinks the rich are at fault for everything. He'd be better suited to be the leader of a union. They are just a protest party, they cannot run a country.
Every day that we get closer to the renters rights act coming into effect, is a day I feel more and more like screaming "sold properties don't magically vanish!"
