(1/2) Africa is no longer just supplying the world's minerals. It is rewriting the rules of access.
Across the continent, governments are asserting greater control over strategic resources, reshaping the mining industry and redefining relationships with international investors.
Five developments illustrate this shift:
- Stronger state control
- Local value creation
- Evolving fiscal frameworks
- New investment dynamics
- Growing legal tensions
The bigger picture?
Africa's resource nationalism is not just about who owns the minerals. It is about who controls their extraction, processing and economic value.
For businesses and investors, adapting to this changing landscape will be essential to navigating risks and identifying opportunities.
📊 Swipe through our latest analysis to explore the trends reshaping Africa's mining
sector.

🔴 #AFRICADay2026 | “Communication and nation branding must be grounded in reality.”
The panel “The Image of a Nation: A New Instrument of Power?” brought together Corinne Amori Brunet, Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marc Trouyet, Special Adviser to the Director for Africa and the Indian Ocean at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Kim Younes, Chairwoman and CEO of TV5MONDE, and Francois Hurstel.
Many thanks to Willy Schereid Souo, Project Consultant at Concerto and Founder of Generation Diplomatie, for moderating this insightful session. Here are some of the key takeaways:
🔹 Building a credible national narrative: beyond communication, a country’s image depends on the consistency between its narrative, public policies and the real-life experiences of its citizens, investors and partners.
🔹 Multiplying the voices that tell a country’s story: diplomacy, media, businesses, culture, creators and diasporas all play a role in shaping a nation’s influence and international visibility.
🔹 From image to attractiveness: reputation and influence can also become powerful levers for attracting investment, talent and visitors, while strengthening a country’s position on the international stage.
A thought-provoking discussion on the new drivers of influence and power for African nations.

⛽️ The Gulf crisis has put #Africa’s reliance on imported fuel back in the spotlight. @DangoteGroup is playing a major role in helping to secure fuel supplies across the continent and into Europe, with ambitious expansion plans.
From refining to fertiliser and cement, the group is expanding across key industries. Its new USD 15-17 billion refinery project in #Kenya is just one part of a much wider plan across #Africa, as Dangote Group targets USD 100 billion in revenue by 2030.
What exactly is the group planning, and how will it pay for it all?

Last night in #NewYork, we brought together clients, partners and friends from across the US, Africa and beyond for Africa for our networking reception alongside #UNGA81.
This year’s UNGA focus on restoring trust and managing transformation speaks directly to our work with businesses, governments and institutions across emerging markets, particularly in Africa. We help our clients understand markets, build relationships, strengthen their reputation and tell their story.
Countering disinformation is also an increasingly pressing challenge for our clients. We help them respond with facts and credible voices to protect that trust.
Thank you to our co-hosts Invest @InvestAfrica1 and to everyone who joined us for such a lovely evening!
🗳️🇲🇦 #AfricaElectoralWatch | On 23 September, almost 16 million Moroccan voters will elect the 395 members of the House of Representatives.
27 parties are competing, but the contest centres on the three partners in the outgoing coalition: the National Rally of Independents (RNI), the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) and the Istiqlal Party (PI). Having governed together since 2021, the three parties are now campaigning separately, each seeking to emerge as the leading force in the next government.
No party is expected to secure the 198 seats required for an outright majority. The formation of the next executive will therefore hinge on coalition negotiations, which will shape the government’s political balance, the allocation of key portfolios and the pace of reform.
The next government will need to respond to expectations on employment, purchasing power and public services, while maintaining strategic investment ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

🇿🇲 🗳️ #AfricaElectoralWatch | President Hakainde Hichilema has been re-elected in #Zambia with 60.5% of the vote, ahead of Brian Mundubile on 37.8%.
His second term begins against a backdrop of electoral fraud allegations and heightened tensions with the opposition.
Hichilema will now have to address several major challenges, including poverty, the rising cost of living, limited access to electricity and growing concerns over democratic backsliding.
On the economic front, Zambia aims to sustain foreign investment across mining, energy and infrastructure. Copper will remain central to this strategy, with the government targeting annual production of 3 million tonnes by 2031.

🤖 L’intelligence artificielle transforme déjà l’Afrique.
🔹 des infrastructures numériques et énergétiques performantes ;
🔹 des talents formés et valorisés localement ;
🔹 des données de qualité, représentatives et maîtrisées ;
