On Juneteenth, we commemorate the anniversary of the delayed but welcome news of freedom reaching the enslaved Black folks in Galveston, Texas. It’s a reminder that even in the darkest hours, there is cause to hope — and a reason to keep building a country that lives up to its highest ideals.

My one-year-old son just looked up from Twitter and said, 'Mummy, why have you made these very real children sad with your heinous yet unevidenced bigotry?' Then he ran upstairs and burned all his Potter books. I was so damn ashamed I almost forgot the kid was imaginary.

I have posted this before but ..
26 years ago, a gunman entered
Dunblane Primary School in Scotland,
killing 16 kids and a teacher. The UK
govt responded by enacting tight gun

Mental health is health. I’d rather a staff member miss a day or two or three to take care of themselves than resign because they didn’t feel like they could.

Today I subbed in a 5th grade classroom. Library time was on, luckily, but with a substitute. There was no art specialist time (so, no planning) because of an unfilled substitute position. We need to address the #subshortage – at Olympia, WA

As a district person - I can not find a reason to disagree - and would go so far to say it would be a good idea to toss school leaders into that - but at other schools so they can see how different buildings operate. Has the potential to be an embedded learning opportunity. – at South Carolina, USA

Today, whilst questioning, I told a kid to:
‘Tell me why.’
But I sang it Backstreet Boys style.
Half the class replied, in sync, with:
‘Ain’t nothin’ but a heartache…’
Then we continued the lesson as if nothing happened and this is why I became a teacher.
