We can't save a burning planet with a firehose of fossil fuels.
We must accelerate a just, equitable transition to renewables.
The science is clear: The 1.5°C warming limit is only possible if we ultimately stop burning fossil fuels.
Not reduce.
Not abate.
Phase out.

"The survey found only two mature Murray cod in a 140km stretch of river"
Decades of mismanagement & undermining of the Basin Plan is causing the Darling-Baaka ecosystem to collapse.
We must buy back water & return it to our rivers ASAP.

Let us just say it for what it is: CCS is a scam.
It's been used by the coal and gas industries to delay real climate action.

Financial Times editor: We need a new Marshall Plan on #climate. There’s too much to do, and given the urgency and the need to get the solution right, this isn’t a task for your favourite ESG-focused portfolio manager or the tech bros. The sheer scale of the physical infrastructure that must be revamped, demolished or replaced is almost beyond comprehension. Governments, not BlackRock, will have to lead this new Marshall Plan. And keep doing it. The western nations that did so much of the damage will have to finance the transition in the developing world — it is astonishing that this idea is still debated. Massive deficit spending will be necessary, not a new ETF. For all the cleantech advances and renewable deployment in recent decades, fossil fuels’ share of total global energy use was 86 per cent in 2000 and 82 per cent last year. Capitalism won’t deliver the energy transition fast enough . . ." Derek Brower, US energy editor of the Financial Times

In just the last week, about as many acres have burned in Canada as burned in California all year in its off-the-charts record-breaking fire season of 2020. The total area burned is now 6 million hectares, about 15 million acres or 23,000 square miles. ciffc.net/

I keep thinking we've reached the largest anomaly (in terms of absolute magnitude), but that's not the case yet. The #Antarctic departure continues to widen. Apologies if you are tired of seeing me post this same graphic.

ALT Line graph time series of 2023's daily Antarctic sea ice extent anomalies in red shading compared to each year from 1979 to 2022 using shades of purple to white for each line for days between April 1 and August 1. Anomalies are computed relative to a 1981-2010 baseline. There is substantial interannual and daily variability. There are no clear long-term trends.
