#TodayInConservation we are re-lining a Railway Map of England & Wales. The maps surface had been abraded and therefore the paper was very soft and fragmented. We have removed the varnish and lined it on a Japanese paper support on our map wall. #PaperConsevation #Map

#TodayInConservation we've started cleaning work on a large map of the Township of Batley, dated 1857, from our Kirklees office. 🧽
Stay tuned for future updates on its treatment!

Can you help? We're saddened to announce a break-in at Kelham Island Museum and would be hugely grateful for any information that could help @syptweetrecover the 12 items that were taken.
You can find full info and contact details here: sheffieldmuseums.org.uk/news…
ALT We’re really sad to share that Kelham Island Museum suffered a break-in at the weekend which saw the theft of 12 items relating to the city’s metalworking history. The objects, which include items from Sheffield Assay Office, the Ken Hawley Collection Trust and lenders to their collection, are an irreplaceable testament to the skill and excellence that has earned Sheffield makers a global reputation. Their historical significance is far greater than any financial value they hold. Some of these items are likely to find their way onto the market and are very distinctive – we’d be hugely grateful if you, our Twitter friends, could keep a look out and contact South Yorkshire Police if you have any information that might help their investigation. You can find contact details and images of the objects in the link above.

A set of notebooks that belonged to a Danish sailor c.1690, six of which have have unusual black pages. One has been written on with chalk, while the others have writing etched into the pages. Below is breakdown of what we have discovered about them with a few observations /1

For #FindsFriday, recorded this week with @findsorguk a Medieval lead alloy ampulla dating from AD 1350 - 1530. These are flasks containing holy water, but unusually this one is still crimped shut with the contents intact! For full record see: finds.org.uk/database/artefa…
