Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico is accusing Elon Musk of using his wealth to influence the state’s U.S. Senate race against Republican Ken Paxton. “Musk wants his very own personal United States senator,” Talarico told supporters, arguing that outside spending is shaping the campaign. He also pointed to his campaign’s 1.3 million individual donors and declared, “Texas is not for sale.” Federal campaign finance disclosures reported by The Texas Tribune show Musk gave $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, which transferred the same amounts to Texas PAC, a group supporting Paxton. Dallas County voters will decide on November 3 whether to approve a higher county property tax rate. Here’s what Proposition A would mean. A **yes vote** approves a rate of 24.865 cents per $100 of taxable property value, which is 2.4 cents above the voter-approval rate. A **no vote** means the county rate would be set at 22.465 cents per $100. County officials say the additional revenue would support homelessness reduction, mental health treatment and stable housing programs. The county estimates the increase would generate about $102.9 million. What would the tax rate mean for your property tax bill? Check the official county information before voting. A $600,000 investment. A convicted mortgage fraudster. And records from Ken Paxton’s impeachment investigation. A joint investigation by ProPublica and The Texas Tribune found that a blind trust associated with Ken Paxton and his wife invested in businesses co-founded by Scott Sherman, who pleaded guilty to mortgage fraud in 2014. The records also raise questions about the trust’s independence and Angela Paxton’s role with a Wildcatter advisory board. A U.S. Senate race in Alaska is at the center of a legal dispute over two candidates who share the name Dan Sullivan. The Trump administration is seeking to block certification of a victory by Democrat Mary Peltola if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses while the second Sullivan remains on the ballot. Republicans argue the same-name candidacy could split votes. The second candidate says he decided to run independently, and Alaska’s Supreme Court has already rejected an effort to remove him from the ballot. Could data center expansion reshape rural Texas politics? Some longtime Republican voters say concerns over noise, air quality, electricity costs and large-scale development have shaken their confidence in state leaders. Some are considering voting Democratic for the first time. Gov. Greg Abbott has called for stronger safeguards on data center water and power use as concerns grow. But rural Texas remains politically conservative, and whether this issue changes election results is still uncertain.
