Whenever Labour now set a target journalists need to ask if it a real target fully committees to or a stretch target. You know, like the promise of being pro business and pro growth.
Angela Rayner blatantly admits that Labour use pure election bait. She says Labour's promise to build 1.5 million homes was "always a stretch target". And they claim achievements in social housing. 🤦‍♀️ Remember this the next time you believe their empty promises and vote Labour.

If they really wanted to treat rich British taxpayers as “customers” - they’d have a customer success team who were incentivised to keep them in the country.
🚨NEW: HMRC's letter to wealthy Britons demanding detailed information about their financial arrangements has been revealed

Angela Rayner can’t name a single pound of spending that Labour will cut - not one! 🤯 We are £3 trillion in debt, borrowing more just to pay the interest. Get a grip.

There is no way HMRC will make mistakes with or abuse these powers. There is no way 100s or 1000s will unfairly have money taken from their accounts, and then face a state refusing to accept it made a mistake. Thankfully, nothing in British history suggests this will happen.

Show me a man who knows nothing about how business works without telling he knows nothing about how business works
Nope, that’s not how taxes and price works. The price is determined by demand and supply. Companies charge the highest price they can given demand. A tax levied on *profits* does not affect a company’s cost ie supply. Taxes on *windfall* profits (like oil and gas) are the most efficient kind of tax there is.

Corporate profit taxes do not directly shift marginal costs but empirical studies show partial pass-through into higher consumer prices. Windfall taxes on oil and gas have deterred investment and production in practice despite theoretical efficiency on rents. dadun.unav.edu/server/api/cor… ecb.europa.eu/pub/pdf/scpwps… taxfoundation.org/blog/big-oil-p… scottishfinancialreview.com/2025/09/03/win…

This bloke doesn’t understand the concerns about abuse of power. Perhaps he didn’t read about The Post Office scandal.
I'm genuinely shocked at how many people seem personally affected by my HMRC post. 💀 If the replies are anything to go by, the amount of people not paying their tax in this country must be absolutely MASSIVE. I thought this was an unpopular opinion. Turns out I've hit a nerve. 👀💷

Man with real life experience explains business basics to academic.
It affects their return on investment, which must exceed the cost of capital/passive returns (eg Gilts) If you reduce the return on investment, two things happen: 1. Prices increase to compensate and/or 2. You deter current/future investment.

Angela Rayner unable to point to a single area where Burnham govt is willing to cut spending. Says the govt is 'putting billions of pounds into transformational spending' that might one day tame the welfare bill

Ahead of John Healey's first Budget, a reminder that companies don’t pay tax - people do. And that also applies to energy suppliers and to banks. In more technical terms, companies are only legal entities and cannot bear the economic burden of tax themselves. Tax increases are therefore always passed on to real people. Shareholders will bear some of the cost through lower profits and dividends, although many 'ordinary' people own shares through their pension funds. But customers will also pay through higher prices, while employees will face lower wages. Everyone may lose if companies cut jobs and investment or move activity overseas. So, whenever someone says, “companies should pay their fair share” or “tax banks, not workers”, ask them where the money will really come from… 🤔

“Prices are determined by supply and demand.” Cool story. Now explain what determines supply. One thing that socialists fail to understand is that for supply to exist, someone has to commit capital, take on risk and they expect a sufficient return. That return is calculated AFTER tax my guy, just look at any P&L. The mistake that Labour keeps making is that it thinks that incentives don’t matter - that entrepreneurs can take the risk and the government can take the rewards. You raise taxes, they raise prices. If they can’t raise prices they don’t just say cool, no worries, they’ll cut investment, jobs, hold back wage increases - any combination of the three to drive profit. Whichever way you put it, it’s harmful. Some bedtime reading on windfall taxes for you: news.stv.tv/north/oil-firm-a…

Labour is proving that it is anti-growth. You get growth by cutting taxes and spending.
Kemi Badenoch is proving she's only on the side of the very wealthiest. £17 billion of tax cuts for the richest. The Tories have learnt nothing.

Spot on. Raising taxes by £66bn and claiming growth was vital was always an odd approach. Tax and spend Labour doesn’t work in this economic environment.
Labour are in a right mess. If they cut public spending, they risk losing voters. If they increase spending, they risk triggering a financial crisis. Former Bank of England Chief Economist Andy Haldane is warning of a “Truss style crisis”. Labour face some very tough choices. And they can't keep avoiding them.

The Hillsborough Law was supposed to hold public officials accountable for deliberately misleading the public! Only … MPs and peers have EXCLUDED themselves from the new law when acting as public officials! So the people who made the law have ensured the law doesn’t apply to them. Only to the little people. So what’s the point of it?
The House of Lords is about to pass the Hillsborough Law without including themselves. Peers could mislead the public on TV and break no law. Ask me in the comments how you can help.
