On one hand, I can see that. Using save states for every little thing you do in a game ruins how you play it. On the other hand though, most of these old games are hard as nails. and having to do levels over and over can get pretty monotonous real fast.

rewind and save states being default features in official rereleases of retro games is deeply destructive to how their design is perceived and I'm not sure why people don't see that, imagine if they add that shit to dark souls and the majority of people just end up rewinding-
