Following the screening, the agency hosted a panel discussion with Commissioner Stanley Richards, the film's Director Lynn Novick, Close Rikers Czar Dana Kaplan and writer and producer Rahsaan Thomas, about the future of the justice system in New York City.
Guests were also invited to tour the closed George Motchan Detention Center (GMDC) on #RikersIsland.

#NYCDOC members gathered with heavy hearts in #MountVernon yesterday to bid a final goodbye to retired Correction Officer Samuel Perry, a legend in the agency who served with distinction for 45 years.
Officer Perry passed away peacefully on Oct. 10. He was 94 years old.
His distinguished work in the agency included a remarkable 30 years of perfect attendance, which led to a facility on #RikersIsland being named in his honor.
The Harlem-native also served as a combat infantryman in the @USArmy where he earned the prestigious Purple Heart in honor of his valor and sacrifice.
“Anyone who has worked in corrections knows this is not an easy job. It takes discipline, patience, courage, and a deep sense of responsibility. Officer Perry demonstrated those qualities for nearly half a century,” Commissioner Stanley Richards said. “But what stands out about his story is not simply how long he served. It’s what his service represented. The strength of this Department has always been its people — the men and women who carry out difficult responsibilities while maintaining safety, security, and respect for the dignity of those in our care. Officer Perry embodied those values throughout his career.”
Officer Perry was also remembered during yesterday’s service as a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
The Boldest Family thanks him for his decades of dedicated and exceptional public service. May his kindness, heroism and legacy of helping others continue to inspire us all.
