Trump is now an 80 year old lame duck with a Democrat congress. The immediate political task is to find the next leader of the party. It isn’t going to be Trump, and wouldn’t be even if Republicans won tonight. Time to look to the future.

Tonight, I make a solemn promise to every single Texan. Whether you voted for me or Governor Abbott, or felt so betrayed by a broken politics that you did not vote at all.
Hear what Texas said today, loud and clear: Your government belongs to you. And as your governor, I will never forget it. There will be no special set of rules for the wealthy and powerful. No looking the other way when someone in my own party does wrong.
The trust you have placed in me tonight is not a blank check. It is a sacred responsibility. And I intend to earn it every single day.

South Carolina, you have shown the nation — in an era of partisan divides, of vitriol and namecalling, in a politics dominated by billionaires, special interests, and insiders in Washington — that we will not bow down.
We will not back down. And we will chart our own course.

Xavier Becerra will be a governor who will carry the torch for California — someone who, with Dr. Reyes, will represent our state and its diverse communities. A son immigrants, a product of the California dream who will stand up to Donald Trump and represent our values. Congratulations!
