The Great Stele of Aksum. One of Africa’s most extraordinary examples of ancient monolithic engineering. About 33 metres long, 500 tonnes in weight. Carved from a single piece of Nepheline Syenite (comparable in hardness to Granite) it subsequently fell and broke apart.

This 2021 Bloomberg interview with Wuhan researcher Danielle Anderson deserves another look—and some careful distinctions. “Not manmade” does not rule out a research-related accident. A naturally occurring virus could infect someone during collection or laboratory work. Engineering, accidental infection, and deliberate release are separate questions. Firsthand experience matters, but its scope matters too. In Bloomberg’s accompanying reporting, Anderson acknowledged she did not know what everyone at the institute was researching. Her experience in its BSL-4 facility could not establish what happened across the entire institution. Not observing sick colleagues is relevant testimony. It is not comprehensive medical surveillance and cannot exclude an isolated infection outside her immediate circle. Descriptions of rigorous safety procedures deserve consideration. Investigators also need incident reports, maintenance records, and occupational-health records to establish how those procedures worked in practice. Fairness matters: Anderson did not categorically exclude an accident and supported further investigation. Those qualifications deserve as much attention as the reassuring headline. None of this proves a laboratory origin or establishes that Anderson was dishonest. It explains why personal confidence cannot substitute for independent access to records. That is the principle behind Carolina Flu’s call for transparency: examine the evidence, test competing explanations, and let the findings determine the conclusion. bloomberg.com/news/videos/20… carolinaflu.org

What did UNC System leaders know about Carolina’s coronavirus research—and what did they do? Today we filed a public records request seeking leadership briefings, communications and oversight records from 2018–2026. Our request names Peter Hans, Bill Roper, Margaret Spellings, Chris McClure, Norma Houston, Andrea Poole and Richard Burr. It also covers key UNC System offices responsible for legal affairs, communications, academic affairs, government relations and Board records. North Carolinians deserve answers. Funny how the @SteveBakerUSA takedowns all come from anonymous accounts. Do they fear speaking truth to weakness?

12,900 years ago, something ended the world, and in my opinion it's connected to the Gothenburg Geomagnetic Excursion! The Earth slammed back into ice-age cold almost overnight. North America’s mammoths vanished. The Clovis people disappeared from the record. When the cold finally lifted, Göbekli Tepe rose. That is the same era Plato gave for the sinking of Atlantis: 9,000 years before Solon. 12,900 years is almost exactly half a precession cycle, half a Great Year. We are now standing on the opposite side of the wheel.
