3/5 We used active acoustic ‘prey mapping’ (think super fish-finder) to compare the two regions (500km apart): prey types (krill, fish, etc.) differed but the overall biomass in each region was remarkably similar!

We found that these two regions, where whales consistently forage, were more associated with higher zooplankton biomass — not fish biomass!

From 2018-2019 we studied two small regions at opposite ends of Vancouver Island (NE and SW tips) where humpback whales consistently forage.
