wishing i was fluent in every language just to read their poetry and literature in its truest form without a translation pulling it apart.

Probably going to be completely overlooked by the media but today is the 200th birthday of photography as a medium and that’s pretty cool
The world celebrates the 100th anniversary of photography. 100 years ago today, on October 6, 1826, Nicéphore Niépce took the earliest surviving photograph, “View from the Window at Le Gras.”

electric toothbrushes were originally made for people with disabilities but now everyone uses them. the same with velcro, & even curb cuts, which were designed for wheelchair users, but now useful to cyclists & pram-pushing mothers. rights for a subgroup can end up benefiting all

You gotta maintain a lightness to your heart because turning into a bitter loser obsessed with how people have done you wrong is the most off-putting and unrewarding way a person can choose to be

“The reaction people are having against AI is the same reaction people had when the internet was introduced.” No, it wasn’t. The internet expanded access to information. AI is replacing human labor and creativity while consuming massive resources and harming the planet.

I feel like we don’t give the advances in bandaging technology enough credit. I remember when I was a kid I never wore bandaids unless absolutely necessary because they always fell off. Now they actually stay on throughout the day - and on flexible parts of my hand!

🧊🇦🇶🔊 INSOLITE || Un bloc de glace lâché dans un forage de 137 m en Antarctique produit un son de pistolet laser, à cause de l’effet Doppler et des échos sur les parois.

In America “Labor Day” means everyone with a fake email job gets the day off and actual laborers have to work twice as hard to keep up with the extra demand created

Let me get this straight... OpenAl was founded as a nonprofit. Open source. For everyone. "To benefit humanity." Then he raised billions of dollars. Then he closed the source code. Then he converted to for-profit. Then he scraped the entire internet without asking anyone. Then he used YOUR writing YOUR art YOUR code to train his models. Now he's on stage saying you'll pay HIM to access intelligence. Just like a water meter. He stole all of your data. He built the product with your work. And now he's going to bill you to use it... Corporate greed has reached an all time high, and they're not even hiding it anymore...
Open AI CEO, Sam Altman: “We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.”

PLEASE DONT LOSE YOURSELF TO CLIMATE DESPAIR. To feel that deeply for the planet we call home is beautiful. It means you’re a kind, caring, empathetic person w/a deep well of love for life. We need you in the fight for the future. I know things seem bleak & the UN saying we have passed the point of no return was a gut punch. Feel that emotion & get angry. Stay active. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Climate change is real. Climate grief is real. Don’t lay down your sword when the battle gets intense. Fight.

I'm not entirely sure how to process that a glacier collapsed in Nepal, killing over 950 people, 4000 people are still missing, because the planet is rapidly warming. but instead of fixing the problem, billionaires and politicians are building more fossil fuels, data centres and beef farms. it is completely insane and psychotic.
