Standing by to serve the nation
If the The Law Commission did anything useful (it does not) it would be furiously trying to figure out what a BBW is this morning for the purposes of tabling urgent amendments to the Crime and Policing Act (2026)

The vicar of Christ:
NEW: Pope Leo XIV is set to become the first sitting pontiff in the Catholic Church’s two-thousand-year history to vote in a secular election. Leo requested an Illinois mail ballot on Oct. 3, and it was sent to his brother John’s home in New Lenox, Ill. John Prevost visited the pope at the Vatican on Wednesday and may now be carrying the ballot back to the Will County clerk by hand. thelettersfromleo.com/p/pope…

What has Sri Lanka got to do with anything Mr Campbell
I have heard it from far better people than you and they were wrong too. What I enjoyed was seeing you running away from an argument about Brexit because you would rather talk about anything else. And I loved the smile being wiped from your face when the young woman tore apart your net zero BS. You’ve not nice suits and nice shoes but you’ve got more chance captaining the Sri Lankan cricket team than you have of becoming Home Secretary.

It may just be my overly middle class conformist upbringing but I cannot stand pointing. Should have the finger chopped off.
Alastair Campbell did not appear to enjoy being called a war criminal to his face: The truth hurts.

Glad sauchiehall street is pedestrianised though
This burnt down 8.5 years ago. Wonder what the chances of it making it to 10 are. I'd say, in this town, more than likely.

Some of us are *very* happy about lower business rates for pubs #Budget26

Winner so far, hat tip to @MJBurrows - the Tapas Budget, lots of fussy little measures that add up to nothing very satisfying

Mindblowing chart from OBR. In 2029 real household disposable income per person expected to be just 1% higher than in 2019. What an unbelievably awful decade. It used to grow by 2%+ every year, not 1% in 10 years.

There is like 100? Micro measures while maintaining a macro approach indistinguishable from anything any chancellor since Osborne has done ex defence. Just odd.
Budget is such a nothing. March will have to be big? Defence pegged for massive rises. Health 2.6%. Everywhere else real term cuts. Big rhetoric gap. Burnham should call now. Will be a grim election in 28/29 if he doesn't.

Budget is neither here nor there but the shift in forecasts in just six months has been something else
Looks like net migration for 2026 fell to 120k for the year. If correct that’s the lowest it’s been, excluding Covid, since….the late 90s?
