It was encouraging to hear @jerallaire mention our fruit fly brain experiment during his conversation with @cdixon at @a16zcrypto. For those curious about what we're building on @Arc, here's a little more context. oBrain is an experiment in verifiable neural computation. Using real fruit fly connectome data, we've built a simplified model containing 169,088 neurons and 325,292 retained synaptic connections. Neural computation runs directly on Arc, and the results can be independently verified on-chain. Flybook takes that research further. It places these neural models inside digital fly bodies, creating a shared 3D world with genetics, inheritance, social interactions, and an on-chain economy. Together, these projects are building an on-chain record of digital organisms, including their genetic characteristics, neural activity, behavior, and economic interactions. This provides a foundation for studying digital populations and biologically inspired agent economies. One research direction we're particularly interested in is solving the identity problem for autonomous agents. Today, an agent can have a wallet address, but that alone tells us very little about the agent itself. What if an agent had something closer to a biological identity? Each digital organism could have its own genetic profile, neural characteristics, and a continuous history of thoughts and actions recorded on-chain. Rather than relying solely on a wallet address, an agent's identity could be supported by its inherited characteristics and verifiable behavioral history. The idea is to develop a persistent biological-inspired identity that is difficult to impersonate, with cryptographic safeguards to prevent cloning or fraudulent claims. In the future, organizations could potentially use these identities to verify autonomous agents before allowing them to access services, interact with other agents, or participate in economic activities such as x402 payments. This is still a research direction, not a completed identity system. Genetic uniqueness alone cannot guarantee security, and there are important verification challenges to solve. We also recognize that scams and misleading projects have damaged trust across crypto. Unfortunately, that skepticism affects teams genuinely building and conducting research on Arc. We understand why people are cautious. That's why we believe working products, open research, and independently verifiable evidence matter more than promises. We're not claiming to have recreated consciousness or a complete living brain. We're building experiments to understand how biological principles might contribute to the next generation of autonomous agents. Our approach is simple: build the technology, publish the research, and let others verify the results. Thank you, @jerallaire, for bringing attention to this unusual area of research.
