🇺🇸 Senator Cynthia Lummis says Democrats opposed the CLARITY Act despite changes made to address their concerns over crypto fundraising limits. She says the bill’s annual cap was reduced from $75M to $50M, with a new $200M lifetime limit added at Democrats’ request. The bill failed a key Senate procedural vote on September 15, leaving US crypto regulation in limbo.

Trump says oil prices will fall dramatically once the Middle East war ends. At the same time, he says the US is making “a freaking fortune” from higher oil and gas prices. But higher energy costs don't just hit consumers at the petrol pump. They can keep inflation elevated, complicate the Fed's rate decisions and put pressure on risk assets. For Bitcoin and crypto, a sustained drop in oil prices could help ease some of that macro pressure. The longer energy prices stay elevated, the harder that backdrop becomes for markets.

Bitcoin has bounced back above $80,000 after briefly breaking below the key $79,500 support level. The recovery is encouraging, but BTC still needs to reclaim $81,500 to strengthen the bullish case. Above that, $83,500 is the next major resistance. If $79,500 fails on a sustained basis, further downside remains possible. For now, we're looking for confirmation that buyers can turn this bounce into a genuine recovery.

Sam Altman says OpenAI wants to build robots that can build more robots, alongside data centres capable of building more data centres. He compared the potential impact to AI recursively improving itself. If this becomes reality, AI's growth could extend beyond software into the physical infrastructure needed to power it. Robotics, compute and AI are becoming increasingly interconnected, and the scale of investment required could be enormous.

The Smarter Web Company has bought another 20 BTC. That takes its reported Bitcoin holdings to 2,850 BTC, worth approximately $323.65M at the time of the report. It's another example of a UK-listed company continuing to build its Bitcoin treasury despite the recent market weakness.

Bitcoin has lost the $81,500 support on the 4H chart and is now trading around $80,740. The rejection from $84,500 has shifted momentum towards sellers, with buyers struggling to reclaim lost ground. If BTC remains below $81,500, we see $79,500 as the next major level to watch. A clean break could open the door to further downside. For bulls to regain control, BTC needs to reclaim and hold $81,500, opening the possibility of a move towards $83,500. We believe the short-term structure remains under pressure. Until Bitcoin recovers key levels and sustains the move, the risk of further downside remains elevated.

Middle East tensions are putting renewed pressure on global markets. Reports of Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and claims of further tanker strikes in the Strait of Hormuz have intensified concerns over energy supply disruptions. Brent crude surged above $114 a barrel on Friday, reaching its highest level since May, while US crude climbed above $101. The problem for markets is straightforward: prolonged disruption to oil supplies risks keeping energy prices elevated, adding to inflationary pressure and complicating the outlook for interest rates. That creates a difficult backdrop for risk assets, including Bitcoin. Higher oil prices can fuel inflation concerns, push bond yields higher and reduce expectations for monetary easing. Bitcoin isn't guaranteed to fall in response, but continued escalation could increase volatility and weigh on investor sentiment. Until there is a credible path towards de-escalation and more reliable energy flows, geopolitical risk remains a major factor for markets.

Coinbase's Irish unit has been fined €3.25M over safeguarding and outsourcing breaches spanning 2020–2025. Coinbase says it self-reported the issues and that no customers suffered financial losses or lost access to their funds. That's an important distinction, but it doesn't make the compliance failures irrelevant. Crypto platforms want to become part of mainstream financial infrastructure. That means customer protection, operational resilience and proper oversight have to meet the standards people expect from financial institutions. Regulatory acceptance brings opportunities, but it also brings greater scrutiny.

Around $1.31B in Bitcoin options are scheduled to expire at 08:00 UTC today. The reported max pain level is $82,000, with a put-to-call ratio of 1.03. Another $250M in Ethereum options are due to expire, with max pain around $2,450. With BTC trading near the $82K area, this expiry is worth keeping on the radar. Just don't confuse max pain with a price target. It doesn't tell us where Bitcoin has to go. Spot demand, liquidity and positioning still matter far more than one options metric.

Bitcoin is back around $81.5K after getting rejected near $85K. This level has held up as support several times, but we need to see buyers step in again. Reclaim $83.5K and we could see another move towards $85K. Lose $81.5K and $79.5K is the next major level to watch. BTC is at a decision point here.
