I believe Satoshi may have purposefully caused the first downward difficulty adjustment before he stopped mining altogether. These are his final weeks mining with an unusually high hashrate of 10 MH/s before he shuts everything down abruptly and right before a new difficulty epoch begins. And then a little bit over two weeks later, #Bitcoin got its first downward difficulty adjustment.
