I think somewhere along the way we’ve started confusing community with opportunity.
There’s nothing wrong with chasing new opportunities, making money or supporting different projects. That’s part of why we’re all here.
But I do wonder what happened to building something together beyond the excitement of the moment.
We spent months getting to know people, supporting each other, sharing ideas and building communities around things we genuinely believed in. Yet the moment things get quiet, it’s almost as if none of that ever happened.
The same projects we once couldn’t stop talking about, sharing and supporting suddenly become something we scroll straight past.
And that’s the part I struggle to understand.
Because if our support for one another only exists when there’s momentum or something to gain, then are we really building communities, or are we just participating in transactions, do you preach community and end it once you’ve sold you “community bag”?
I don’t expect everyone to stay interested in the same things forever. But I do believe there’s a difference between moving forward and forgetting what helped get you there.
The real strength of a community isn’t measured when everything is going well. It’s measured by what remains when the excitement fades.
