🇮🇳 Coinbase is now available in India. Should you use it?
Indian crypto users now have access to direct INR deposits, withdrawals and spot trading on Coinbase.
But there's more to this exchange than buying and selling crypto. From its institutional clients and global licences to its fees and regulatory status, here's what you should know before using it.👇
🧵
🇺🇸 Coinbase's advocacy for regulation
Coinbase and CEO Brian Armstrong have pushed for the CLARITY Act in the US.
Coinbase is also involved in crypto advocacy through Stand With Crypto, which campaigns for pro-crypto policies and mobilises crypto supporters.
Coinbase has also backed Fairshake, a crypto-focused political action committee (PAC) that supports pro-crypto candidates through political advertising. In October 2024, Coinbase pledged an additional $25 million to Fairshake and its affiliates ahead of the 2026 US midterm elections.
The CLARITY Act stalled in the Senate in September 2026 amid disagreements over key provisions, including stablecoin rewards.
The outcome could affect how the US crypto industry operates, while Coinbase's political advocacy gives the company a voice in the regulatory debate.
So, is Coinbase worth considering in India?
Its biggest advantages are strong regulatory compliance, strong cybersecurity, direct INR access, public financial disclosures and experience serving major institutions.
But before choosing it, compare trading fees, available coins, liquidity, withdrawal options and custody risks with other exchanges.
