Today is National Maritime Day. Created in 1933, the holiday recognizes the maritime industry's crucial role in the economy and security of the nation. Often overlooked is the fact that the Merchant Marine suffered the highest casualty rate of any U.S. service during WWII.
LeVar Burton helped make libraries, bookmobiles, book fairs and reading and epic adventure for generations!!! He was the host, I was one of the medics, at 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee!

This weekend, Howard University celebrated the largest graduating class in our history — 3,167 strong — with none other than the legendary storyteller and literacy champion, LeVar Burton, delivering a powerful, heartfelt send-off to the Class of 2025.

We have an exciting Eastern announcement... On August 3, 2023 the Historic Preservation Review Board unanimously approved the Eastern High School as a historic landmark in DC and an officially recognized historic place in the national register! 🤩
