“We need to use economic firepower to help drive Putin to the table. I believe that Russia is at the darkest point that they’ve been at in this entire war, and now is the time for us to turn up the pressure.” --@SenKatieBritt “I don’t think we need to be making any more deals with Russia." --IA Senate candidate @hinsonashley. Vladimir Putin is not our friend, and he is certainly no humanitarian. His relentless attacks on innocent civilians in Ukraine show his total disregard for human life. Appeasement won't end this war. Pressure will.

.@ryebarcott’s With Honor does tremendous work across party lines to support principled American leadership. @IRIglobal was proud to host Rye alongside @NDI for a discussion of his fabulous book, “Courage Can Save Us,” and the importance of 🇺🇸 leadership for freedom
Courage and civility aren’t opposites. They work best together. 🤝 Thank you to @IRIglobal and @NDI for hosting us for a candid conversation about standing firm in your convictions while still treating people across the aisle with respect. For decades, both organizations have worked side by side to strengthen democratic institutions, support free elections, and empower citizens around the world. Their work abroad is a powerful reminder that democracy depends on leaders willing to put country over party, and that starts with how we lead here at home. #WithHonor #Courage #Civility #Leadership #CrossPartisan

Spent this morning with @IRIglobal President @DCTwining, @NDI President @WittesNDI, and their teams joining from posts around the world. Born in the Reagan era and bipartisan from the start, these two organizations do the quiet, unglamorous work of defending democracy abroad. They do it by empowering local leaders, not by imposing solutions from the top down. That is the lesson at the heart of our work at @cfkafrica and my first book, It Happened on the Way to War. It is also how I first met Madeleine Albright, NDI's longtime chair, who chaired CFK and supported @WithHonorAction in our early years alongside her friend Secretary George Shultz, a Marine veteran of World War II who helped Reagan establish both institutes. We talked about @SenToddYoung, who is in Courage Can Save US and sits on the @NEDemocracy board, and the courage it takes to stand with our allies across party lines. We also discussed John McCain, who chaired the IRI board for 25 years. This exchange reveals something about how McCain appears in the book. His memory echoes.

President Zelenskyy was the only European leader to publicly visit the Gulf States during Epic Fury while offering help with air defense; Ukraine is giving us an incredible amount of knowledge that’s improving our own capabilities (as per the Trump Army). And it’s destroying the military of our one of our chief rivals who seeks our harm.

I spoke with Marco Rubio @SecRubio, and it was a substantive conversation – focused on the issues that matter. I am grateful for his readiness to help and his clear position. First, ballistic missile interceptors, which are needed to protect lives. Second, early warning of Russian ballistic missile attacks, which is vital. Third, the situation with Starlink/Starshield, which needs to be restored. Of course, all of this comes against the backdrop of our diplomatic efforts to end this horrific war and the constant killing of people. We agreed to get in touch again soon for an update. Thank you, Marco, for the constructive discussion! Thank you to everyone in America who supports fair approaches!

I will be speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team this week to discuss Starshield, sanctions, and other matters pertaining to the defense of our strong ally, Ukraine. I will be assuring President Zelenskyy that anyone who attempts to limit the use of Starshield for Ukraine will be fully investigated and will be held fully accountable, to include public congressional oversight hearings, and immediate harsh and punitive budget cuts to any responsible agency or agency head. Congress will unequivocally reaffirm that Ukraine is an indispensable ally to the United States, that Russia is a self-declared enemy of the United States, and that the United States will 100% support and defend the people of Ukraine in their fight for their own freedom against this brutal, illegal, and unprovoked Russian invasion. The United States must provide any and all defensive equipment that Ukraine needs to defend itself. The United States must not import a single drop of Russian oil. Sanctions against the Russian regime must be harsher and stronger than they’ve ever been before. Each and every one of these items will be brought to the House Floor—and each and every one of these items will pass on the House Floor by an overwhelming margin. This is, after all, what Ronald Reagan would do. And this is what we will do now. Ukraine can, and will, defeat Russia. #PeaceThroughStrength

“We have the formula to end this war: help 🇺🇦 be more lethal… let those supporting 🇷🇺 know there will be a price to pay to keep doing it… get people to help us with Putin rather than propping him up…. We can end this war so that 🇺🇦 will thrive & survive.” —@LindseyGrahamSC

🚨BREAKING: This new chart from @TheStudyofWar overlays Ukraine’s strikes on Russian refineries with the price of diesel fuel. There is NO CORRELATION between strikes on Russian refineries and spikes in the price of diesel here in the U.S. They are not driving up prices here.

Like Iran, China is the patron of the Houthis. This is the Axis at work — “Chinese companies are now the biggest source of seized goods bound for the Houthis, according to U.N. reports and data gathered by arms experts. Most of the Houthis’ U.S.-sanctioned drone parts suppliers are based in China, the data show.” wsj.com/world/middle-east/ho…

.@NobelPrize There is a growing consensus that this was a terrible mistake. You should cancel the award to Pillay. Instead, give it to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He rallied his nation, inspired the free world, and stood against an evil empire bent on conquest.
France 24 reports a “chorus of praise” for Navi Pillay’s Nobel Peace Prize. But what about the chorus of dissent from human rights scholars, activists, democracy dissidents, lawmakers, scholars and a U.N. whistleblower? Here are a few voices you forgot to report, @France24: 🧵
