DEA continues to celebrate #RedRibbonWeek, Oct. 23-31. During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults around the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse, including prescription drug misuse, and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. These Young Marines, in Castaic, have their pledge locked in! Thank you Young Marines Drug Demand Reduction Encampment for standing with DEA.

Thank you Review Journal @kingoftruecrime for sitting down with DEA Las Vegas District Office’s Brandon Lesky. “Preventing overdose deaths — and the trafficking of methamphetamine and fentanyl — remains a priority for Las Vegas Valley.” @DEAHQ @DEATerryCole @TheJusticeDept
A Las Vegas DEA agent attributes the decline in deaths in the valley to increased awareness, the extensive distribution of products like Narcan throughout the Las Vegas Valley, and the continual arrests of traffickers and dealers.

So proud of the impactful work delivered today by ALL of our federal partners and DEA’s Diversion team. “Just two weeks ago today, we were talking about how Mexican drug cartels and local street gangs were taking advantage of the most vulnerable on the streets of Skid Row – those suffering from their substance abuse and addiction challenges. Today, when I didn’t think it could be more evil, we are talking about holding accountable individuals within the medical profession and rehabilitation industry who profited to the tune of an estimated $2 billion dollars in alleged fraud, having used as pawns the same vulnerable community,” said DEA Los Angeles Special Agent in Charge David Olesky. @DEAHQ @TheJusticeDept @DOJFraudDiv @DEATerryCole @USAO_LosAngeles @FBILosAngeles @IRS_CI @HHS #DEADiversion

Early this morning, the FBI and our partners arrested 8 of 15 defendants in Southern California, Dallas and Chicago, for their roles in health care schemes that collectively resulted in $2 billion in fraudulent claims to government and private health care programs, including sham substance abuse treatment programs, unnecessary artery treatments, and bogus hospice services. Two of the 15 defendants were arrested last week.
“Today the FBI and our partners executed 8 arrests, with 7 additional defendants charged, after the subjects involved allegedly orchestrated a multi-year healthcare fraud scheme resulting in $1.8 billion in losses,” said FBI Director Kash Patel. “The defendants - including medical professionals - made fraudulent claims to steal from taxpayer funded healthcare and insurance programs, including substance abuse treatment programs, hospice care, and Medicare programs in the Los Angeles area designed to help the most vulnerable. Under President Trump’s leadership with the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, stealing from American taxpayers will no longer be tolerated in this country. This FBI will continue to move aggressively with our Department of Justice to dismantle fraud networks stealing from hard working taxpayers.”
“Healthcare fraud cheats American taxpayers and health care programs out of billions of dollars,” said Patrick Grandy, the Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office. “The FBI will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to do everything in our power to safeguard our government health care programs and the taxpayers picking up the bill.”

Simi Valley man sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for knowingly possessing with the intent to distribute #fentanyl, the use of which resulted in the fatal overdose of a victim. David Olesky, Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Los Angeles Division, which covers Ventura County, said, “Fentanyl trafficking is a trade in death with no winners. The defendant’s actions caused a terrible tragedy. Though the victim's family is left with enduring grief, we hope this sentencing brings them some measure of peace.
