Clark Kent truly was the connective tissue in the fabric of NYC/hip-hop culture that’s slowly, surely, and sadly unraveling due to time, gentrification, and the passing of legends. he brought us and elevated Biggie and Jay. no Clark Kent = Jay-Z coming home from London and deciding to sell drugs full time vs testing out this rap shit. God’s Favorite DJ. #RIPClarkKent #RIPDJClarkKent 🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦

Common's "The Light" was a love letter to Erykah Badu, his girlfriend at the time. J Dilla built it on Bobby Caldwell's "Open Your Eyes", played a hair faster, with Detroit Emeralds drums. It became Common's first Billboard Hot 100 hit (#44) and earned a Grammy nod.

Queens Get The Money | Day 23 Akinyele - "The Bomb" (Produced by Large Professor) This record had me in a chokehold back in '93. Just listen to how heavy it sounds! That bassline! And one time for the album cover too. 😮‍💨🤌🏽

The story of DOOM's mask isn't spoken about enough. He kept his face hidden for decades and MADE the fans focus on the art. It repelled all the fraudulent industry nonsense, he knew "fame" was phony and carried himself accordingly

Madlib has released dozens of albums over the course of his career and various projects; in a 2013 interview with @RollingStone, he spoke about how the public is quick to cast judgment when an artist’s sound changes. “People are always saying someone has fallen off. I do music for myself first. I do what I want to hear, not what other people say they want to hear,” he stated. Happy birthday to Madlib, who turns 53 today. 🎂

I told this new guy I’m seeing that I DON’T date broke men. Three days later, he had me standing in the middle of a luxury store while the security guards watched us like we were on LIVE TV. Him: “So this the bag you want?” Me: “Yes, baby. The black one. $8,500.” Him: “Eight THOUSAND five hundred dollars?” Me: “You heard me.” Him: “For a BAG?” Me: “I thought you said you wanted to spoil me.” Him: “I do.” Me: “Then what’s the problem?” He looked at the price tag, then looked at me. Him: “You said you don’t date broke men, right?” Me: “Exactly.” Him: “And you think buying you this bag proves I’m not broke?” Me: “Well, a man who got it like that wouldn’t be stressing over $8,500.” He smiled. Him: “Okay. Let’s do it.” GIRL, I ALMOST SCREAMED. Me: “See? I knew you were different.” He handed the bag back to the sales lady. Him: “We’ll take it.” Then he pulled out his phone and asked her to print the receipt. I was already imagining the pictures I was gonna post. Then he turned to me. Him: “Before I pay, can I ask you something?” Me: “Sure, babe.” Him: “How much is your rent?” Me: “Why?” Him: “Just answer.” Me: “$1,600 a month.” Him: “Car payment?” Me: “$480.” Him: “Credit card debt?” Me: “What is this, an interview?” Him: “You said you don’t date broke men. I’m just trying to understand your standards.” I rolled my eyes. Me: “I make my own money. I just like a man who can provide.” Him: “Cool. How much you got saved?” Me: “That’s none of your business.” Him: “Fair enough.” He turned back to the sales lady. Him: “Cancel the receipt, please.” My jaw DROPPED. Me: “Excuse me?!” Him: “I’m not buying it.” Me: “So you ARE broke!” Him: “No, I just decided I don’t wanna spend $8,500 on somebody who measures a man’s worth by what he buys her.” Me: “You brought me here!” Him: “You sent me the store location and told me to prove myself.” Me: “A real man wouldn’t embarrass me like this!” Him: “A real woman wouldn’t need a handbag to determine if a man is worth dating.” I told him he was cheap, insecure, and probably couldn’t afford me anyway. He nodded, walked out, and left me standing there with the sales lady. That was last week. ..............

In 1994, Pearl Jam wanted fans to pay no more than $20 for a ticket. Ticketmaster's $3.25 fee pushed the price past that line, and the band canceled its summer tour rather than accept it. In the video below, the band tells Congress who it was fighting for. "All the members of Pearl Jam remember what it's like to be young and not have a lot of money." Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament testified before a House subcommittee on June 30, 1994. Gossard said part of Ticketmaster's fee went back to promoters and venues and blamed "this incestuous relationship and the lack of any national competition for Ticketmaster." Asked whether Ticketmaster was entitled to a profit, the band answered: "I think our main concern is, are we entitled to use a different company other than Ticketmaster?" Aerosmith's manager told the subcommittee what Steven Tyler had said to him: "Mussolini may have made the trains run on time, but not everyone could get a seat on that train." Ticketmaster said it had offered, through promoters, to cut the fee to $2.25 or $2.50, depending on the area. It blamed the band: "They said this was it, take it or leave it." Pearl Jam wanted $1.80. The gap was 45 to 70 cents a ticket. The next year, the band sold a tour through a smaller company and canceled half the dates. Eleven days later, the Justice Department closed its investigation without filing a case. On April 15, 2026, 32 years after the testimony, a jury found that Live Nation and Ticketmaster had illegally maintained a monopoly and that fans in 22 states had overpaid an average of $1.72 a ticket. Live Nation is contesting the verdict. Who cost the fans the 1994 tour: Pearl Jam or Ticketmaster?

Q-Tip made the "Electric Relaxation" beat in Phife Dawg's grandmother's basement. She'd given him a key. Phife came home, heard Ronnie Foster's "Mystic Brew" drifting up from below and ran downstairs without even saying hi to grandma: “Yo, what the hell is that?!”
